Quoting viw (Thread starter): Does anybody know why AFR 695 diverted to Boston yesterday almost half way across the atlantic?
Medical emergency. Following from Transport Canada daily occurrence reports.
The New York Air Route Traffic Control Centre (ARTCC) contacted the Moncton Area Control Centre with an estimate on AFR695, which had declared a medical emergency and was rerouted direct to Boston (KBOS). Fuel was dumped in New York Oceanic Airspace, and the aircraft requested medical assistance upon arrival. The Boston Centre was advised.

I am amazed that the B747 still had to dump fuel even though it had been flying about 3 plus hours in order to land. Looking at Flight Aware, it did a lot of maneuvers to burn off and dump fuel. Can you just imagine if this had been the Air France A380?
