You own an airline....which alliance would you choose? Oneworld, Sky Team, or Star Alliance?

I would choose either oneworld or sky team. It is hard to choose between the two.

Of course, Star Alliance. Not only is it the largest alliance, it also has stable member airlines and is globally represented far more than Skyteam or Oneworld.

It depends where I am based. If I were Air Namibia (my home country), I would prefer to be Star Alliance - hook up with South African Airways, and also with Lufthansa in FRA

Kind of a strange question. All would depend on where my airline is based and what my route network looked like.

But I don't adhere to the comment of Star Alliance having stable airline members... they have lost a few either due to outright bankruptcy (ie Spanair) or to switching alliances (ie Mexicana and soon TAM)... Not sure all of the airlines in the alliance are economically sound. (You could make similar arguments around sound/unsound airlines in the other two alliances as well.)

As a passenger, I am high level elite member in all three alliances!

Not Star Alliance because United sucks.

If I were to be an airline in Romania, oneworld because they lack good reach in Southeastern Europe.

My favorite airlines are SkyTeam airlines though.

All three alliances have their weak links...

I've yet to have an experience as bad as that on United.

But then you lose out on SQ, LH, and NZ. All excellent.

Star Alliance, because United rocks.

UA is my favorite airline, and I know most people would disagree with me but I'm also a fan of US. Internationally, I've flown SQ and OZ, both airlines are excellent.

Singapore, maybe.

KLM is as good as LH.

NZ... yeah, the 2 times in my life I need to go there :pp

StarAlliance primarily for SQ. Not so much because I like SQ but because I'm based in SIN

Also for UA and LH since their coverage of the American and European continents are excellent

And increasingly for TK since I forsee myself travelling more to the Eastern portion of Europe and the Middle East and they seem to be growing well in those areas.

I also have some miles with DL if I ever use the Skyteam.

I have nothing with Oneworld

oneworld.

A select mix of carriers

Working close together but still separate (AA/IB/BA and BA/JL)

Flight experience enhanced (AA upgrade/New Aircraft, same with BA and IB)

Good coverage in populated popular destinations (US/South America/Europe)

New members coming to further enhance offering to customers

I agree, UA and US are my favorite US carriers.

Assuming I was launching an airline in Australia then I'm not sure ... My gut instinct is to say Star (unfortunately OW is taken!) to tie up with NZ and SQ. Unfortunately, though, VA have stolen those two. Nonetheless, I would probably still stick with Star because UA have a good network over SFO, LAX, and IAH which I could tap into TPAC (DL don't offer comparable connectivity from an airport I could reach from SYD), Avianca provides a sound LatAm presence (most importantly in Brazil), and Turkish and Lufthansa provide very good European coverage between them. SAA has the African market covered. And even if SQ don't want to play ball, there is still TG, OZ, CA, and NH in Asia.

In comparison SkyTeam gives me a weaker presence in LatAm outside of Argentina, no coverage of Africa or the Middle East, admittedly a very very good European operation in AMS, and - what amounts to - poor connectivity in the USA. With all respect to DL, I don't plan to compete with QF@DFW with their meagre LAX operation.

How does SkyTeam give you no coverage of Africa or the Middle East if KQ, ME and SV are all SkyTeam members and are based in Africa and the Middle East respectively?

Star Alliance all the way and after that Oneworld. Skyteam is a cheap imitation.

With Star Alliance you have a good selection of decent carriers like Swiss Turkish Air New Zealand Aegean Austrian and Singapore.

Ryanairguru... where have you been??? in addition to having ME, SV and KQ in the alliance, Skyteam probably has the best covered network on the African continent out of Europe/USA with AF/KL/DL....
Hello?????

OK, I did forget those. ME in particular could be useful, SV less so given that it can be difficult to connect over RUH

KQ I really should have thought of, but I was more specifically thinking Southern Africa. To my hypothetical airline SAA +ET for East Africa is still better over all than KQ

Didn't you see that I explicitly said ex-Australia?
