I was just arriving into YWG behind Cathay Pacific 806 HKG-ORD. Diverted because of fire indication in the forward hold. Apparently there is no fire to be found so far. Aircraft parked on a remote apron and was surrounded by emergency personnel. Looks like they'll be spending the night. Anyone have any idea of what sort of max duty time the crew can do in this case?
That's not what the CX website is showing. Arrivals/departures is showing a departure time from YWG of 2150 and arrival time ORD 2310. It arrived YWG at 1324 so if it actually does leave at 2150 that would mean about 8.5 hours at YWG. Seems to indicate they're flying in a new crew from somewhere.
From Transport Canada daily occurrence reports re the diversion.
A Cathay Pacific Boeing 777-300 (B-KPE/ CPA806) from Hong Kong (VHHH) to Chicago (KORD) declared an emergency at 1730Z due to a fire warning indication in the cargo hold area. The aircraft advised diverting to Winnipeg (CYWG). Full ARFF equipment call-out was requested and was ready for the aircraft when it arrived for landing. The aircraft landed safely at 1754Z. No impact to operations.
