Hey guys, planning my trip back to the us for a month or so, and I wanna fly back on an NH 787. My target day is August 11 but I am having issues working the NH reservations page. The US page wont show me any of theNH 787 flights.

I'm looking to fly into Phoenix. Ill fly back from Cincinnati to Narita via DL out of MSP, or NH out of ORD.

Anyone can give me any pointers?

Thanks,
PHX787

NRT x/NH SEA x/US PHX...that's what I was going to say but NRT/SEA is on a 777.
NH probably decided to stick to regional routes for the 787 in the time being...or it might be a summer up gauge.
I remember riding on the 787 NRT/SEA a month before it was grounded...

NH operates their 787 into SJC. Their flight will be daily by September. US also flies into SJC for a connection.

Seems like San Jose is the only 787 route that you can use that would be convenient. Not sure why transferring there is not an option on NH's webpage, perhaps the times are not convenient. The flight would arrive in SJC at 11:10 and the next US flight to PHX is at 12:20, which might be too tight to be allowed. After that, you have a 4:05 which might be too long. You should be able to get this route by phoning them instead.

Alternatively, you could book an open-jaw ticket such as:

NRT-SJC
CVG-NRT

then a separate ticket

SJC-PHX-CVG

Obviously this will cost a bit more than a simple round-trip ticket but gives you more flexibility.

Let us know what happens.

Why not try UA from NRT-DEN-PHX? NRT-DEN is now a 787.

Well I want to try a Japanese airline instead of a US airline this time, to compare the service differences between DL and NH.

I'll give them a call then.

I actually want a longer connection-last 2 times I've been through USCBP, it took me so much time, and last time I missed my connection at SEA.

The issue is that you are going to get killed fare-wise because of your one-way ticket.

You can book NRT-SJC-PHX on UA's website with both flights booked as a UA codeshare. Fare is $3,902 for one-way ticket. Ouch!

But if you are willing to pay that price, then I think booking at UA.com is probably the most straight-forward route to go.

Damn why is it so high? Code share fees?

That's the one-way fare, hence the higher price.

If you book the following round-trip ticket on the UA site:

NRT-SJC-PHX - this is with the 1:10 layover
PHX-CVG (via IAH)
CVG-NRT (via IAH)

the total is $2,668.93. You might be able to play around a bit with dates and connections and find something a little cheaper but it is still quite expensive. I don't believe that code-share fees are the reason, just traveling in August on a popular route.

To compare, NRT-SJC-NRT alone is $2161 on UA, using a random return date.

Meanwhile, SJC-PHX-CVG-SJC is $768 (using Kayak) so the first option is slightly cheaper booking the entire trip as one ticket is slightly cheaper.

NH's USA site allows for multi-city destinations but the price for a similar route (not via SJC as that does not appear) is 362,000 yen!

Agree with MHTripple7 that UA.com might be the easiest way to get what you want, but it will cost you.

If you're a US citizen, you really need to consider the Global Entry program. Time clearing immigration should be in the area of 2 to 3 minutes then! Also, once you get the GE, you can register for the TSA Pre Check.

Jeesh, a good friend of mine flew ORD-NRT r/t for about half that a few months ago.

What about taking the JAL 787 NRT-SAN? I realize they're OneWorld, which could pose a problem for you getting to PHX without more connecting flights, unless you wanted to book a nonstop on US or WN separately. You could potentially take JAL through BOS too, but that would be out of the way trying to get to PHX. Just an idea for you to check into if you want.

So I tried calling NH from here........the clerk had no idea what I wanted to do (she spoke decent english) so it was hard to schedule this. I haven't set anything up yet but looks like I'm gonna have to pay a high price for this flight

I know, I'm signing up when I get back.
