So I am going to the middle of nowhere in Russia this September (or so it seems anyway) and I have no good choices heading back out. I can either:
-Find a way to kill about 10 hours at DME;
-Do the same for 12 hours at IST;
-Take Aeroflot to CPH via SVO and have 50 minutes in CPH to connect to AC.
Is this with Turkish Airlines by any chance (and booked as one ticket)? Then, you should be eligible for complimentary hotel.
Not sure if they use the airside hotel (if there is one), so you might need to pay for the visa.
As for CPH, I would usually say 50 minutes is enough, but maybe not, when connecting from two airlines that are not in the same alliance, especially if you have baggage you would need to check-in again.

Good thing you asked, made me realize I screwed up my OP, it is DME not SVO. Sadly, none of these options are with the same airline.
S7 to SQ in DME and TK to AC in IST.
In that case, I do not know what would be best. If you do not mind me asking, why are you connecting to AC in IST, was price lower than TK? Or are you flying on a Friday (the day AC flies the route, but not TK), or was the TK schedule even worse (longer than 12 hours)?
Edit: Never mind, just realized that I may have assumed incorrectly that YYZ was your destination.

As you guessed, I am connecting in YYZ, and my employer has a contract with AC, not TK, so it would be an AC ticket with a leg on TK, presumably at a lower price than a TK ticket with a leg on AC ex YYZ.

Currently in Moscow. TK is better than S7, and DME as crowded as IST without the service and shopping. I'd choose IST. In addition, if you'd like to use the time for some sightseeing, it is much easier to go into town for a couple of hours from IST (and the food you can get cannot be compared). Never had issues leaving IST between flights, but you have to pay for the visa.
