Interesting to see that little has changed in more than 50 years.
In 1960 my family and I vent to Rimini for a summer holiday and we flew into Milano and took the train from there. On the return trip we flew an Alitalia Viscount to Milano and flew further on from there.

Well, "surprisingly" it´s not Ryanair to offer such a destination ex FKB.
Air Berlin got the contract with the local airport / tourism authority in Rimini ...
So, AB serves RMI during summer season from DUS / NUE / STR / FKB every saturday (Dash 8-400) and from TXL every sunday (Dash 8-400)
As the OP asked for "FRA or MUC" STR and NUE would fit well ~ half way between both airports.
Both STR and NUE are easily accessible from either Munich or Frankfurt by public transport (train/underground)
NUE being closer to MUC and STR closer to FRA (distance/travel time wise).
