Does anyone know why QFA has flown DFW-AKL twice this week? My only guess would be really bad winds, but I thought that's why they were doing the stop in BNE enroute to SYD. I checked on Qantas website last night and it showed DFW-BNE was cancelled and was changed to DFW-AKL. If I hadn't found that I was thinking that flightaware.com had this as an error.

The winds are particularly bad at this time of year (there's a pretty clear pattern of diversions when you look at the diversions across 12 months). The flights still go via BNE (so final routing is DFW-AKL-BNE-SYD), but passengers travelling to SYD/MEL generally seem to be accommodated on alternative flights from AKL rather than having to make the additional stop in BNE.
As a side note, QF seems far happier to fly via AKL this year than they have been in the past. We've seen far more diversions over the last few months than in previous years, which suggests to me that they're less willing to offload revenue from the flight in order to get into BNE than they used to be.

AKL is the diversion point of choice because it is only a little further than NAN/NOU in terms of diversion points but it allows them to source and replace crew who run out of hours quickly and easily. It is often the way that AKL bound passengers offload here rather than fly DFW-AKL-BNE-AKL.
