I need to travel on the following legs non stop in about a month, Tampa to London, London to Hong Kong then back via LAX or SFO then non stop to Tampa.

Ned to stay about 3 days in London, 3-4 weeks in Hong Kong.

Anyone have suggestions for the most economical itinerary, and / or where to start looking ?

I think a good source is the flight booking site at Expedia: http://www.expedia.com/?rfrr=Head:Nav:Multi:Home
Here you can choose between one way, roundtrip and multiple destinations. The latter should be suitable for you, you can search up to 6 single flight legs, with a new departure date for each of them.

I hope I could help you

Aeroflot provides cheap intercontinal fares, you should try checking out their prices from LHR to HKG

Although I haven't used it much with international routes, I really like flights.Google.com for searching. It is pretty good at finding off-the-radar connections -sometimes including multiple airlines- that can save you some money. The amp search option is helpful for finding fares to alternate airports, but it sounds like you know pretty well where you need to go.

Cough cough.

This post should be in the forum 'TRAVEL, POLLS AND PREFS'

Please do come back to the Trip Report forum when you have done you lovely RTW tour, and give an account, with lots of photos of foods, toilets and IFE screens.

As mentioned, you've posted on the wrong forum.

Expedia and Orbitz are both surprisingly good for cheap RTWs. Build the trip as a multi-leg itinerary. If you're not choosy about airlines etc then obviously get a better deal, by plugging in some dummy dates around the information you provided I'm seeing $3750 on Orbitz for AA-CA-DL (bizarrely, three different alliances!) If you play around with dates you might be able to get something cheaper as I have seen RTW fares for $2800 before on these websites, but you are booking close in so that's probably likely.

If you are happy dealing with an agent rather than doing it yourself online, then I would recommend Flight Center. I can't promise anything but they sometimes have stunning RTW deals http://www.flightcenter.com/

I would suggest using Kayak and booking everything as one ways and not using multi city search. Kayak can also show you flexible dates, I believe staying 1 day more or less is not an issue in your case.

Airlines cheap for one ways:

Airberlin (alhough from MIA or RSW)
Turkish (usually via Canada or US Gateway and huge detour in IST), this one you can use from TPA as well)
Transaero (from MIA via Vnukovo)
Will cost you around 600 EUR

Vietnam (via SGN or HAN)
MH (via KUL)
TK (via IST)
will cost you around 500 EUR

MH (via KUL) to LAX (approx 350 EUR) and then another ticket LAX-TPA on whatever (approx 100 EUR)

Makes you a total of 1500 EUR which is approx 2000 USD and I am sure this you can try to get even a bit lower if taking more time and trying different dates, routings etc... I.e. instead of booking TPA-LON on one ticket, you may also book JFK-SNN-LON one ticket with EI at approx 330 EUR (or even cheaper with Norwegian's long haul 787 via Scandinavia) and then add a separate TPA-NYC with Delta at approx 60 EUR, which makes you save 100 EUR more, you get the idea...

Well, since you are staying in London for three days, can you switch airports? BA flies to LGW daily, non-stop from TPA on the 777-200 ER. Then, traveling to HKG, you could fly from LHR to HKG, and then via LAX, you could fly to TPA on DL. I generally look at orbitz, it gives you multiple options, typically the most affordable, but I also check on the airlines websites. What dates are you planning, or what general time (like month). Just with that, it would be a bit easier to check out, and I could give you suggestions if you need any.

Edit: I didn't see you posted saying, "in about a month." Okay, thanks for the first date.

Edit again: first searches ran, TPA-LON (cheapest option I found was around $650 (that involves flying B6 to BOS, and taking Icelandair from there, 2 stops total). Nonstop to LGW on BA from TPA looks around $1750, which is expensive. As someone else recommended, if you are trying to go as cheap as possible, you could book separate tickets, and fly from JFK on Norwegian air shuttle, which is extremely affordable.

Keep in mind, if you book separate tickets you may run into baggage allowance issues on some sectors as European and Asian carriers are often much stingier with baggage if you itinerary does not involve the Americas...

Have you looked at RTW fares on the Star Alliance or One World pages? Sometimes they can be good. You can mix airlines among the groups, add stopovers, change dates.
