It was pleasant but had some things missing. I think LGW is much better than most UK Airports to be honest. Its the airport where I have noticed a big improvement over the last few years in terms of passenger experience.

What's wrong with LHR Terminal 4? (other than location) I think LHR is on its way to becoming one of the best. I do think EDI is a comfortable and modern airport for its scale, except for the god awfully long walk to the commuter gates. LGW is the bottom of my list (and the older terminals at LHR).

The arrivals at LHR terminal 4 are awful if you are waiting for a rental car shuttle. No order at all, and buses randomly wait for minutes on end and some in and out. Recently I had to wait extra time as the bus I wanted just happened to arrive at the back of the waiting area, but did not even get on it even though I had arrived first.... rude people at their finest....

This doesn't surprise me. I have never been to the UK, but smaller airports are almost always more convenient to than larger airport. Every time I fly out to New Hampshire to visit family, I always pay the little extra to fly into MHT over BOS because it rarely takes more than 15 minutes to get from check-in to gate, and when family picks me up curbside, there is at most 5 cars picking or dropping off someone, instead of a ton of cars try to squeeze into a spot. Smaller regional airports are always more convenient to locals over larger international airports, so I give props to Southend for being a great small airport
