I've just booked myself on Sri Lankan (UL) for Colombo(CMB) to Hambantota(HRI), and the flight time shown on my ticket is 35mins operated by an A343. I know that low cost carrier MIHIN LANKA also operates 1x daily A343 on the same route that departs 20mins behind the UL flight.

I wonder are there any shorter SCHEDULED commercial route under 35mins that are operated by widebodies anywhere in the world?

Hong Kong is not China. Not better or worse, just different.

I stand corrected. And Air china flies to MUC from ATH, not LHR. But it's nowhere close to CMB-HRI

I believe it's because there is no quick/easy way to cross the river between them, making it profitable enough for ET to operate the tag-on (or maybe just extra stop on a triangle route, I'm not sure.)

Not to mention that they're in different countries, meaning an extra customs stop for some PAX if ET only flew to one of the cities.

BA has a few other very short widebody sectors with 5th freedom rights. A couple that come to mind:

BAH-DOH (777), 79 nm, block time 50 min.
UVF-GND (Grenada) (777), 114 nm, block time 50 min.

A look at the Nov. 2013 edition of Airline Route Mapper reveals, in addition to some mentioned above, these very short flights (no guarantees on the accuracy):

BON - CUR (46 miles), operated by a KL 330 and an OR 763 (among other airlines). Arkefly also operates
a 763 on AUA - CUR (74 miles).

PUJ - SDQ (86 miles), operated by an AF 744.

DLA - SSG (71 miles), operated by an AF 772 and an ET 763.

CCJ - COK (74 miles), operated by an AI 744.

CAN - HKG (84 miles), served by a KA 333.

But yes, FIH - BZV is the clear winner!
