Transfer @ SYD Between QF & JQ

Hi All,

Looking at booking a flight as follows;

QF1514 CBR-SYD 08:55-09:50
JQ723 SYD-HBA 11:30-13:25

I have to arrive on Qantas, collect my bag, change terminal and then check my bag in for Jetstar? Seems a strange system if you're travelling on one ticket?

Do the timings above allow sufficient time do you think?

Thanks!

You should be able to make that easily. There is no baggage transfer between JQ and QF on domestic flights. See this for more information.

So yes, you will have to collect your bags, then take them from Terminal 3 to Terminal 2. It isn't a huge walk and it is clearly marked in the T3 baggage hall - follow the pedestrian walkways and directional signs through the car park or through the airport train tunnel link.

You will then need to check your bags in once again and clear security, etc.

Qantas recommends 90 minutes which seems generous to me. If the process takes longer than 30 minutes I would be surprised - remembering Australian airports don't experience the queues like here the UK. The experience of domestic air travel in Australia is a long way from Stansted in August!

More information on transferring here.

More than enough time. Including collecting luggage, you will be curbside within 10 minutes, from where it is 3 minutes to walk to T2. Let's be generous and say that it takes you 15 minutes from getting off the plane to reaching T2. Check-in cutoff is 30 minutes, which gives you almost 90 minutes as a buffer. Further, security will take less than 5 minutes at that time of day, more like 2.

In which case I better not tell them about the times I leave home 30 minutes before my flight, 12 minute drive to the airport, security in 30 seconds, and onto the plane. It's the reason I love domestic travel in Australia.

90 minutes is ridiculous.

May I ask what you plan on doing in Canberra? If you need any advice or tips on things to do etc then feel free to PM me

vhtje, RyanairGuru, thank you for the advice both!

I have booked the flights, but am really struggling to book a specific seat on Jetstar due to an error message keep appearing on their website. On my recently booked Qantas flights i'm not able to book my seat either... really weird.

I honestly don't know yet, just walk around and explore I guess. I'm down in Oz visiting friends that moved from the UK 2-3 years ago, and I wanted to go with them to places they haven't visited yet. Canberra was on the list, and we've reserved one full day there, and I'm hoping that will be enough!

Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.
