DL is now offering complimentary meals for Economy Comfort passengers on transcon flights from JFK to LAX/SFO/SEA. EC passengers will get a selection of 3 complimentary menu items to choose from. The same menu options are also available for purchase for customers in standard economy.
There had been speculation that DL was bringing back complimentary food for economy passengers. It looks like this is the beginning.

It's good news for sure, but let's not get too excited. After all, these meals are inferior to what DL offers in F on flights half the length, and also IIRC (it's been a while) inferior to what AA serves for free in Y on shorter flights to Latin America.

I see this potentially happening with more airlines and expanding. Those in Economy Comfort are elites or full fare passengers. I know that with A la Carte pricing on some airlines means that the high fare economy tickets get a free meal. Usually a main meal item or two snacks from the buy on board selection.
