Air Canada Rouge SkyTrax Reviews

I have been reading some reviews today on Skytrax and noticed that Air Canada Rouge is getting some very negative feedback. I counted 20 reviews about Rouge, 3 on the Air Canada Rouge page and 17 on the Air Canada page. On average Rouge received a rating of 1.85 out of 10.

I have never flown on them yet so I can't comment on their service and product. Although I do feel the individual who chose the FA uniforms should be kicked in the arse several times. Anyone think this is another Zip or Tango?

...What are your thoughts or opinions on Rouge?

I haven't flown them yet so I really can't comment. My mother flies them next month and I will have to ask how it goes. However after the Air Canada announcement that they are expending rouge to Vancouver and Calgary today I would doubt it will end up another Tango or Zip. Hopefully it becomes a more successful story like Qantas and Jetstar, only with Air Canada being a strong airline as well.

I flew them YYZ-VRA-YYZ in November. Nothing outstanding or worthy of a complaint. It was on the 319, seat pitch was a bit tight but I'm not that tall so it didn't bother me at all. Service was just buy on board food with free non-alcoholic drinks, same as AC within North America. I didn't use the entertainment service so i can't say anything about it.

I can't express a personal opinion here since I haven't flown with them yet, however, as the old saying say: you get what you paid for.

I've never flown AC (Rouge or otherwise), but I am familar with Skytrax. I would hazard a guess that +75% of people that arrive at that site only get there to have a rant. It's the same all over the world/web. If you have a truly excellent experience, you might tell someone about it (write a report etc). If you have a mediocre/bad/awful experience then you will put a lot of effort into finding an outlet for your displeasure, in this case, the Skytrax website. Ergo, there are more bad reviews than good ones (and very few "it was very average" ones). Treat the wesbite with a good deal of caution/skepticism.

Agree. I totally ignore all sites like SkyTrax, whether it's for airlines or hotels or anything else. The reviews are often biased and could well be planted by a competitor to make the reviewed company look bad.

I love reading reviews on SkyTrax, some of them are genuine horror stories and I can only think of Bono's line in Do They Know It's Christmas, "Well tonight thank god it's them instead of you!" But most are just the ramblings of natters who in a previous (and much lamented) age would never have had the means to get on a plane. They are clearly lacking the intelligence to function in the world, and all they know is how to complain when it predictably fails to meet their comically unrealistic expectations. My very favourite is, "They couldn't seat us together." Well first of all dumb f***, if you used online check-in you could have seated yourselves together, but honestly, who cares? You are going to be backpacking with this person for the next six weeks, in a band tour bus for the next three months, married for the next twenty years - can you not be apart for a few hours? If I can't sit next to my travel companion, I'm like GREAT! I can read, I can sleep, I can think, I can watch a movie, all without interruption, and maybe enjoy a little mid-flight visit to them for a five minute chat. Hey, I have nothing against sitting next to my beloved, or my friend, or my bandmates, etc - but I'm just saying, a bit of peace and quiet isn't so awful. I can function on my own. Why can't morons? Cos the whistling between their ears is so deafening?

I agree with everyone on this point, my thoughts exactly.
However, there are several positive reviews on Air Canada and other airlines, but yes, people rant on the site for a bad experience. Skytrax has some credibility considering that airlines advertise that they are rewarded by Skytrax audits.
But yes, you get what you pay for, its a LCC you should expect LCC service.

Regarding the uniforms, its a hipster overkill.
But I get it, they wanted something "hip, fun and have a fun hat" they got the look, I can't take them seriously.
Are they easy to get along with and will they do their jobs? im sure of it and thats what counts at the end of the day and they will do it with a smile regardless of their low pay.

I think many people don't know what they have exactly booked...

The flights are operated under AC flight number and -yes- you will receive lots of information on the AirCanada web-page about the "rouge" product; it's a different story when you book the flights via a travel agency (sometimes without any further details)!

So I can understand, why some "normal" passengers expecting AC standards are disappointed by what the get in the end!

Then this is at the fault of the travel agent for not informing them that it is not AC mainline but their low cost arm Rouge.

I would take Skytrax with about a kilo of salt. Most of the reviews are made by people who have an axe to grind and they need a place to vent their frustration. Also, there is no way to verify that what people write on that site is accurate or just wanting to make an airline look bad.

Indeed a regular thing that trainers say in customer service projects is that if a customer is happy they will tell a few people and if they are unhappy they will tell a few thousand.

All of these websites are the same. Trip Advisor / Sky Trax etc... The bad ones you read between the lines. The good ones I would take more notice of and also read between the lines.

I once nearly didn't book a hotel in Barcelona due to a really bad review only to get there and it was a lovely hotel with great service etc...

There was also a case a while back where hotels were going on and posting things positive about their hotels and bad about their competitors! I guess the same could happen in airlines too.
