Was talking to some colleagues yesterday concerning facilities our company leases from airports across the country. The conversation moved to worst terminal in the US, and most agreed that for size is had to be LGA.

Yes, I've only been in the US Airways Terminal, but I didn't care for it. I remember I use to have to move around the terminal to get service on my phone!

Well, if you are talking about a single terminal and not the entire airport, the worst airport terminal in the United States I have been to is the Commuter Terminal in Honolulu. Ever since Hawaiian Airlines and the now defunct Aloha Airlines moved into the "new" Inter-Island Terminal, the old inter-island terminal which is now called the Commuter Terminal has steadily deteriorated to the point where it could best be described as a dump. The terminal is used only for Island Air, Mokulele Airlines, Go!, and perhaps a couple of other small inter-island airlines I am forgetting. It is not a very pleasant place to wait to board a flight. There is a depressing bar, a small stand selling fast food, and that's about it. The only thing that recommends it are the direct views onto the ramp area. Otherwise, spending even an hour there is no fun.

LGA's Terminal B, specifically concourse B is the absolute worst IMO. It's like stepping into a time machine. It's cramped, especially by the WN gates and just old. It is long overdue for renovation if you ask me.

Burbank airport is not much better. Some like it because it is a flashback to the 1950's. But the terminal and gate areas are small, cramped, and outdated. There is not much in the way of concessions due to the limited space. Some aviation enthusiasts like BUR because boarding is done by stairs, but this speaks little for the terminal itself.

Another vote for LGA Terminal B. Nothing positive about it. Now that T3 at JFK is demolished, that is.

Dishonorable mention would go to Terminal 1 at SFO. At least the section with the AS gates was pretty bad last time I visited. Limited and poor food options, dark and crowded. One of the worst security lines I've seen in the last 5 years.

It pretty much is not a terminal. But I would not put it on the list because you basically get there 45mins before your flight, wait 5mins for security and board. No connections at BUR that I am aware of.

MIA concourse G is a time machine also. Have not been in it in years though.

I'd like to vote for the main terminal at HPN. A disaster of a terminal that can barely handle one flight at a time, let alone the four flights that are usually operating at the same time. Of course, it's an improvement from the old Quonset Hut that served as the main terminal for decades. But not much of an improvement.

You can thank the NIMBYs for that. They won't allow the airport to do hardly anything out of fear of more traffic.

Another vote for Terminal B at LGA, as it's part of the reason for the airport's nickname of LaGarbage..... The old Terminal 2 at LAS was pretty bad as well.

Terminal 2 at ORD. Narrow concourses that are overcrowded with small gate areas. There are always people sitting on the floor against the walls, baggage everywhere, very few amenities, and it's noisy. The place is called "the fall of Saigon" for a reason.

Concourse C/D at IAD. It's a temporary structure that is 31 years old and counting. It is a complete dump with very few amenities and you have to walk through a long tunnel on the C side to get a train to the main terminal. It has gone through several upgrades (new paint and carpets) but the only acceptable upgrade is to tear it down and build the new Concourse C/D.

(Dis)honorable mention goes to all the concourses at the Central Terminal Building at LGA.

Just a comment . . . quite a few votes for LaGuardia for worst USA airport terminal.

However, in a day and age when almost every terminal observation deck has been closed down for security purposes, the view at LaGuardia's Central Terminal Building of the ramp and Runway 13/31 from the observation areas between Concourse A and B and between Concourse C and D, as well as from the lower level food court between Concourses B and C is outstanding.

It has been slightly over a year since I've been there (December 2012) but from the food court, you could almost reach out and touch the Frontier and Spirit Airbus aircraft parked at Gates B1 and B3 and the American Eagle ERJs parked at Gates C2 and C4.

And the best thing is . . . these are areas outside of security, so you don't need a ticket or boarding pass to grab a cup of coffee and sit for hours in these three areas watching all the activity.

As an A.Netter, I actually think LaGuardia's Central Terminal Building is somewhat nostalgic and I kind of like it !

What other airports have good observation areas these days (I'm talking about from the terminal; not a remote location near the runways, like Gravellly Point-DCA or Post Road-MSP)? The only other one I can think of is the Observation Deck at MSP above Concourse D (but that is inside Security).
