My wife and I were in Lima, Peru last month and we also took a side trip to Cusco, Peru. I was impressed by the number
of passengers going to and from Cusco that were connecting thru Lima. Has Cusco ever been served by international flights?
If not are international flights to Cusco a possibility in the future? I know the Cusco airport is small and it sits at a high altitude
but they have a long runway so is there a possibility of international service out of this airport?
When I went there in April 2012 AeroGal served CUZ from La Paz. Seems like that's gone now.
Neighboring countries seems like the most likely option as I'm not sure the area supports mid/long-haul flights. Also, I think anything larger than a 757 struggles into/out of there as the runway isn't that long considering the altitude/temperature. And the unusual approach is quite high speed I think.
Nothing compares to taking off in an empty 757 with full thrust!
Are you sure it was AeroGal? They'd only connect to UIO or GYE, no?
I flew internationally from CUZ to LPB on rubbish Amaszonas S/A. A day before the flight we got an uncommented email with a new schedule that said that the flight would depart one day later. Eventually my whole Bolivia itinerary stalled and I missed out on the only flying 727-200(WL) with LAB which still upsets me today!
Can't recall any other international flights out of CUZ at that time (10/2012).
