What do you reckon are the top 5 global hubs of the aviation world?

I think mine are:

1. LHR - world's busiest international airport may be rubbish to connect at but you geniunely can fly everywhere in the world

2. FRA - Similar to LHR but not hampered with the Bermuda II and so has service to Charlotte, Dallas and a few others

3. LAX Biggest hub on the Pacific rim - loses out to European hubs for connections to Africa and the middle easy but unbeatable for Pacific Islands and Far east

4. AMS - I had to put it somewhere, thought it didn't have as many destinations as LHR or FRA but pretty awesome

5. SIN - not 100% about this, great for connections to SE Asia and Australasia and pretty good from Europe but I was also tempted by JFK, BKK and DXB

Any thoughts?

LHR
CDG
FRA
BKK
ORD

Nobody's mentioned HKG which is indeed the busiest airport in Asia, in terms of international traffic.

If you also count in domestic operation, then Tokyo crowns the honour!!

I would say MIA might be in the top ten and ATL for sure.

Talking in terms of global implications, I'd go for these in no particular order...
LHR, ORD, FRA, JFK, LAX

ATL, it's the world's busiest airport, and is home to the largest single airline hub in the world as well. What they lack in international service, they make up for domestically. There's an old saying in the South that when you die and go to Heaven (or Hell), you have to change planes @ Atlanta!

I agree, ATL certainly has to be in there. It is user friendly and for the amounts of traffic this airport handles, it is quiet amazing their efficiency in operations and also you can reach anywhere in the U.S. from ATL.

Worldwide and internationally, ATL is of none significant meaning compared to many others. I'd go for HKG, NRT, FRA, LHR and LAX.

ATL is not a GLOBAL hub. I'm sure it is a busy domestic airport but it's share of world international flights is small.

LHR (definitely and without dispute the top)
Either CDG or FRA
LAX
SIN-best connections in Asia
HKG

I'd have to agree, while its obviously in the top 5 US domestic hubs, it's not quite a "global" hub like LHR or LAX
