I am trying to get an MD-11 under my belt before they retire. I live and BOS and must travel to LUG for business in late August. I was hoping to get to YUL or YYZ to catch an MD and then continue to Milan via AMS. However, a oneway ticket in that last week of August to AMS if $1500! The Swiss from Boston direct to Lugano (with a Saab 2000) is only $500 each way. Is there any way to bring the price down? Will it come down at all? Thanks.

I can also say that it was considerably more expensive to fly through YUL or YYZ than it was on the direct MSP-AMS route in the end of September. The ticket directly for me was $1320, but because I too wanted to fly once more on the MD-11 choose to fly MSP-YUL-AMS-BER and BER-AMS-YYZ-MSP which turned out to be $1650. I looked at other airport to fly into and then use Star carrier award to my ultimate destination but no matter where I looked it was just about the same. It was about $150 cheaper to fly to OSL but in the end BER won out, just because it was closer.

Let's just say that YYZ is a very expensive airport to fly in/out of because of their high fees. I'm hoping to get on the MD11 too before it's too late! I think it's worth it to shell out the money if you're a true enthusiast. Good luck!
