Do You Prefer Legacy (DL, Etc.) Or Newer Carriers?

Hello everyone,

Reading through the trip reports forum, a large amount of users seem to prefer B6, F9, NK, and WN rather than UA, DL, AA, and US. I'm wondering, do you prefer legacy or newer carriers and why?

I prefer legacy, but I'm also open to trying these newer carriers. B6, NK, and WN have all provided decent service, but it's hard to catch a 757 or 744 on one of those carriers.

I choose by loyalty (to Qantas), price (increasingly Virgin Australia domestically here in Australia) and availability...
BUT
Overriding all are two elements: aircraft type (I will always chose a travel option that incorporates a new type of plane or sub-type) and frequent flyer points (eg. Which program has 'deals' ATM or I want to build points up in?)
Legacy v new carriers? Doesn't enter into it for me.

I prefer legacy carriers, primarly because of their rich history, diverse fleets, and wide networks. LCCs don't usually reach smaller airports (except for Allegiant) and don't have long-haul international service. I also happen to work for two legacies, DL and UA, through my employer, DGS.

Both airlines are responsible for a lot of innovation in the airline industry and I'm proud to have contributed in a small way to that. Delta just celebrated their 85th anniversary in June.

The only non-legacy carriers I ever flew were HP and YX, both of which had excellent service. I would love to try B6 and WN some day, but haven't had an oppertunity to do so yet. I don't see myself flying ULCCs, like Spirit or Allegiant, but would love to try Ryanair some day, just to say I did.

I prefer loyalty to OneWorld But these days, everything within the US is pretty much the same. There are no true differences to make one US carrier stand out from the next IMHO.

We fly AA/OW carriers as well as JB based on where we need to go.

I prefer to fly US and now AA since the merger but I mainly fly UA because my dad is a FF and flies a lot more than me.

I prefer to fly SkyTeam members, only to accrue points. I'm not opposed to flying other airlines, especially if I have never flown them before or if the price is right. Being DL hub captive, it tends to make more sense for me.
