I need to plan and book my Dec trip to India quickly before prices jump. This time I will be flying out of IAH to CCU and then back from DEL to IAH. I have several options as below (there are more, but I narrowed down to these). I would LOVE your input on this. Which one would you pick and why?

I know a lot of Indians use Lufthansa going through FRA. From what I have been told the connection at FRA is not that long so you won't have to wait hours and hours to connect. You could also pick up the A380 on them too.

I don't think their business model is advantageous. To me, the ME3 are gold-plated Ryanairs. They show much more interest in domination rather than coexistence, receive huge government support and grow quickly at the expense of airlines that have served their home markets well for decades. There's not a lot in this mix that I like.

i would choose CX, SQ or QR.
One reason is that on such long flights it helps that these airlines have 3-3-3 config on their 777 instead of 3-4-3 on EK ( unless you are in Business class, then i guess it does not matter how Economy is).
I would avoid EWR and JFK for winter travel if you are in transit.
I flew with Dragon Air from PEK to HKG last year, and the service was amzing. It was on A330, and aircraft was in immaculate condition ( B-LAB). Great enterntainment, friendly crew and just great. Would love to fly them again.
As this is such a long flight, it is better to have less connections as possible.
However i am willing to fly out of the way to get on CX. They are my favourite airline for long haul ( allthough i havent flown on SQ yet so cannot compare)
I prefer to be crazy and happy rather than normal and bitter

TWA- TK does not fly to CCU. In fact, very few international airlines do.
flyboy, I have narrowed my choices to SQ or QR.
For SQ, the route will be westward, via SFO-HKG/ICN-SIN-CCU. In this case, I will fly have to fly AUS-SFO on United first; and the price is at about $2000 for the entire trip.
QR on the other hand is one stop to CCU from IAH. I live in AUS; so for IAH flights, I usually take the Greyhound to Houston. The QR flight costs about $1770.
I have flown on QR once and SQ three times. Although, QR is great, the flight map did not work in the IAH-DOH sector and then, at the gate for my CCU flight, I was told that the flight was overbooked. I had the spend 24 hours in Doha. QR provided hotel and food; a $200 (I think) voucher, and a business class upgrade in the return CCU-DOH leg. Good gestures, but after a 14 hour flight and rushing to the connection gate and making it in a 55 minute layover, only to be told my flight was overbooked has made me dock some points off QR. I am curious about the new DOH airport though. Last time it was the old airport.
SQ, always comes with more stops, but they have always been on time and of course great service which is a plus.
So, what will it be? I still have some thinking to do. What would you do? Spend more hours on SQ or less time on QR?
Honestly, if the greyhound isn't a bad thing to you, I would say QR. They were ranked the best airline in the world in 2012 for a reason, the fare is cheaper and you get to see the new airport. But yes, you do run the risk of the flight being overbooked. EK out if IAH has the same capacity problem. So I understand that you'd give QR a deduction for that. As for distance, it depends on how convenient you want your flight to be. If you're feeling adventurous, go SQ. If you just wanna get to where you need to be, go QR.

I would suggest AA/QR AUS-DFW-DOH-CCU (24 hours) with DEL-DOH-DFW-AUS - again on QR/ AA. You'd get the 787 on DEL-DOH (depending on the day), and maximum time/ service on board QR (as opposed to the horrible service on American carriers). You'd connect to/from your home airport (why Greyhound to IAH when you can fly out of AUS at a similar price?) - and get 2 bags all the way if it's ticketed together. The new DOH airport is also supposed to be great.
December is a peak time, so I don't expect the flights to be empty, but QR typically offers the lowest fares on BLR-IAH and still the flights DOH-IAH are often empty (anecdotal based on my colleagues who fly QR on BLR-IAH, I fly LH - which is always bursting at the seams )
Why would you want the longer legs with more connections? Moreover, EK and QA are some of the best airlines today. Flown them both, everything was impeccable, from check-in, boarding, to customer service. Whatever you do, do not fly with an American airline, you get less baggage allowance, the food is atrocious, the seats are less comfortable, and the service is mediocre. I would never fly with an American airline internationally.
