What airline are you flying out of Austin? AA via DFW? Sometimes you're better off getting a ticket "all the way" from Austin to GIG, with a stopover in Lima. Might be much cheaper, but have no idea wether AA has a joint venture (fare wise) airline on Lima-Rio de Janeiro.
Have no idea if JJ is in that market, because they are an AA partner.

LA is in One World, so they would have you covered as long as the Peruvian government allows them to do their job.
Side note: How are you going to be able to be in Peru for 3 weeks starting 11/23? Don't you have finals in the middle of December? Also, if you are a 1L, you probably have your open memo due, and if you are a 2L or 3L, you are bound to have some other writing assignment.

Hi,
TAM (JJ) will only start flights LIM-GRU-GIG about February/05, and would be the best option.
Personally, I would say the best option is VARIG. They introduced the 757 in their daily flights LIM-GRU-GIG, and you don't need to make a connection. I am also sure their fares are the most reasonable. The flights also allows you to break your trip in GRU should you wish to do so.

I on AA out of DFW on a 757 down to LIM. I would have had to go to LAX or JFK to get on LAN into LIM I believe. I'll be mostly in LIM and will only get to GRU for a quick trip while im doing mission work.

So, are you taking the year off from law school? I am asking this because I know what it is like, so I don't see how you can miss so much time unless you are taking the full year or semester off.

If you plan to stay both in GIG and GRU, no doubts that RG is better option, since you can buy a ticket LIM-GIG, with a break in GRU, and you don't need to pay extra for this, only the airport taxes.
TACA also has daily flights LIM-GRU (no continuation to GIG), with the A320.

How long have you been on this forum? You should know by now that the moderators want these type of questions in "Aviation Polls andPreferences." It won't last long here.
