i'm stopping in LA on the way home for spotting.

Hello Monty,

My recommendation is to take taxi to the Imperial Park. Otherwise you can
check the following spots.

Have a nice spotting at LAX.

Great place to spot at LAX (and one of my personal favorites of all time) is at the IN&OUT burger place, right at the edge of of the airport, at the start of runway 25R, the main one used for landing. Watch some planes, eat a great burger, go back home.

If you're in the mood for lunch and planespotting, go to the restaurant in the Theme Building - rather "Star Trekish" looking place. Enjoy lunch, then, if it's still open, go upstairs to the observation deck, so you can planespot the time away.

Do yourself a favor and avoid the Encounter Restaurant (the one in Theme). The food is not that good and costs a fortune. Since you have 6 hours, which is plenty of time, I recommend getting a cab to Venice, eating at the Firehouse Restaurant on Main (I recommend getting the bodybuilder's breakfast, scrambled egg whites, chicken breast and amazing pancakes), then head back and spot on the Terminal 3 parking structure

If you want to go out of the terminal building (which you will have to do to do any spotting or go to a camera store, etc.) you will definately have to go through customs and immigration. Since you are Aussie, and have a machine-readable passport, you should have no problem.

If you would rather go home earlier I would say try and make AA flight 1586 as there is a chance that you could make it. Otherwise head over to the In-N-Out burger. Before you leave there you must have a burger though. There is great spotting from there. I met some A.net spotters there. Have a great time in your short trip to LA.

I would go to In & Out Burger and eat, not take pictures, that place has some great greasy burgers.

In the Tom Bradley Terminal, go to the restaurant section upstairs to the West. It is pretty good with lots of chairs to sit down. And gorgeous LA? women.

Also You can go to Manhattan Beach, which is only a 10 minute Taxi ride from LAX. Or you can take a Free Shuttle operated by Ocean Express to the Manhattan Shopping Mall in Manhattan Beach.
