Im flying Tokyo to Los Angeles on 07 December. Havnt been on KE or NW in a long time. like 10 years. Can anybody tell me which is the best to fly with. Last time I flew NW was from HNL - SYD many years ago and they where fantastic, but maybe with the cut backs there international flights are not that good anymore. Are the Tokyo to the US flights better than the others considering the competition, or maybe Korean AIr has great service.

Here's some thoughts (not necessarily facts):
-You could also do JAL?
-Both on the same a/c 747-400 (fact), but the cabins are likely not equipped the same. Are you flying Y/J/F?
-Do you speak any Asian languages, maybe NW would help if you have none.
-Do both airlines operate in the same terminals in NRT and LAX? Which ground placement would suit you better?
-NW has Pepsi products, what does KE?
-Did anything at http://www.airlinemeals.net look good?

If you are first class, NW has upgraded seats. NRT is also a hub for NW, so if you have any problems, you may well get better service. In general, NW is the best US carrier in Asia, and is getting better and better in the US and in Europe. I've pretty well gone NW exclusively these days, even if it costs a bit more. Also, just fyi, NW is the only US carrier that offers free drinks on an international flight (but not to Can or Mex)

KE 001/002 should be 772ER during the winter time.
NW is 742.
I have never been on both aircraft so I can't give any recommendations.
Other carriers on the route include SQ 744, NH 772ER, JL 744, & UA 744. UA 744 probably is the most dated of the interior out of the bunch.
I never knew NW flew HNL-SYD. I thought they flew Japan-SYD for a short time in the 90s though.
