While I'm about a week ahead, I wanted to know what you experienced this year that you have never experienced before in aviation-terms.

Examples:
- New airlines you flew on
- New aircraft (or series of aircraft you flew on)
- New flights/routes you've taken
- New airports you flew into/out of
- Good/bad airline experiences
- Milestones (getting your license, first solo, etc.)

Here are mine:

1. I flew on Ryanair for the first time, SXF-STN, STN-PIK-STN
2. I flew on the 747-400 for the first time on July 3rd, MY BIRTHDAY! on UA916, IAD-FRA, N174UA

I also flew on a 777 for the first time this year, despite having seen the first 777 for UA being delivered. First flight took place on UA949, LHR-ORD on 7/26.

3. New flights/routes included IAD-FRA, SXF-STN, STN-PIK-STN, and LHR-ORD.

LHR-ORD really dragged....the first four hours were over the Atlantic, but went by very slowly as we flew over Quebec and Ontario. At least I had the map and Channel 9! I won't fly this route again, given the choice. I prefer via IAD on the way to/from the US west coast.

4. New airports
-FRA: very impressed! I like it a lot more than LHR
-SXF: Not bad, I thought it would be a dump since it was in the former East Germany, but I was pleasantly surprised. It's very close to the new BBI...SXF is on the northern edge)
-STN: Wow...what an airport! Big and modern, very surprised, expected a dump.
-PIK: Very small, VERY dumpy. Sorry, GKirk...I know you're from SW Scotland!
-ORD/International Terminal: I thought the immigration area was small and dark, myself. Still, I've always wanted to fly into ORD from an international city, and this year I got my wish.

5. Good/bad airline experiences
- Ryanair: Overall, I was pleasantly surprised, and I would consider using them in the future. Only negative was some employee who told me I couldn't take pics. of the plane! Still got them, though... Big grin
- United: 99.9% of my flights on UA are great, and yes, I'm heavily biased. UA916 IAD-FRA was probably my best flight ever. UA949, ORD-SEA, might have been my worst, only time I can recall being glad to get off a plane. No meal at all, shitty movie, and while not UA's fault by any means, the a-hole behind me kept shoving and kicking my seat for 4 hours.

this was probably one of my biggest years...and next year will only be bigger!

I flew my first Southwest flight in November...either my 1st 737-700 flight or my 2nd 737-300 flight...and i have to say that I would fly them again, on a VERY short route that no other airlines fly. That was also my first JAX expirence...it was a very nice airport, but the concourses were lacking. I also saw my first Indy Air plane, and hopefully not my last...they appear to be a great airline that is just failing...I have never had a crew even look at me when departing before, but this first officer not only looked, but waved to me...the people at Indy really do work their @sses off and the love thier jobs. I also got my first AirTran and my first Indy Air timetable.

Another "first" is that I got real close to an Eagle ATR...I've never seen one of the ground, but I have to admit those are mammoth creatures. I would never step foot on one as it is a prop, but those are some mammoth props!

On the other side of things I tried out jetBlue and I loved it. The route was FLL-LGA...not my first time on that route, I don't think. It may have been as I know I have flown MIA-LGA but off the top of my head I can't remember flying FLL-LGA...I looked at pictures...did DL fly LGA-MIA on 7/26/94? Anyway, it was 10X better than Southwest...I will definently choose them if I can, again! It was my first Airbus flight...i liked the aircraft, but i did not like the location of the window. And the only thing that I give to Southwest that I don't to jetBlue is seat pitch...on jetBlue I either had to lean foward or scoot back to see out the window...so too much pitch, to me at least...it was very uncomofrtable...on southwest, it was just right. The TV was great...service unbelieveable...and tohse Munchie Mix...wow! I got some for my house at CVS (it is now on sale at almost every drug/gorcery store except Publix) and it was gone in a day! However, I have to give Southwest's service on the JAX-FLL run and the jetBlue service in general the same rating...a 10! we had a great purser who actually gave refills on a JAX-FLL run...he was humorous, but not trying to be funny...on our flight to JAX, they were trying to be funny and it came out as rude sometimes and just plain stupid others...this guy knew how to balance things and he was the only one who spoke. However, on all flights every crew member was in a good mood and smiling, and not that fake smile, a real smile, a "I love my job and wouldn't trade it for anything" smile...not a "rmember, I'm in it for the free travel" smile I've seen so often!

The only complaint with both airlines was that they could not get people to sit down...even when they boarded from two doors at FLL on B6...we did not pull out on time on any of the 4 flights, even though on 3 of them we were fully boarded...the 4th was massivly delayed anyway...people on LCCs seem to want to stand up, I don't know why, but they just hang out for 20 mins in the aisle, while on the legacys I have never left the gate late due to people standing up.
This was my first trip to LGA's A concourse. I saw my first Continental (Expressjet) close up and in FLL I had seen my first Continental (Gulfstream) and my first Southwest...this was prior to my WN flight) from inside of a terminal...I saw the Spirit of Kitty Hawk. Also, I saw my first Canjet at LGA as well. I also saw my first USA3000 at FLL...nice plane!

This was also a year of firsts security wise...I got my first wnading, pat down, and hand luggage screening...what a blast that was! Oh, and did i mention, my first "random" screening? that was at LGA...on the outbound to LGA I expirenced my first long line for security (30 mins) and my first airport power outage!

What a year it has been for me...and this is only the beginning as when I go to college next year, my travels will AT LEAST double!

Always a fun topic to read and post to...

2004 was my lightest traveled year since joining the airlines back in 1996, but there was a great reason, Noelle Katherine, who arrived on October 19th!

New airlines:
Air Canada Jazz
KLM Cityhopper

New types:
Fokker 70

New airports flown into/out of:
Baton Rouge BTR
Edmonton YEG
Lafayette LFT
McAllen MFE

Milestones:
Most important one was flying the last IAH-EFD-IAH roundtrip, heard lots of nice words from people who had flown this route since the Emerald DC9 days.

New airports:
BNA, DCA, BWI, PHL, PWM, ORF

New aircraft:
737-700, EMB170, CRJ-200

New airlines:
WN; Mesa Mid-Atlantic and PSA (all three as US Airways Express).

Most flown route:
CLT-BDL-CLT: 4 roundtrips.

-First two flights First Class- one by upgrade; one by luck Smile an FA requesting me to sit in First, as there were 2 elderly people already in my assigned row in coach and the FA didn't want to have them get up to let me in.

Most flown airlines:
US Airways- 16 flights
American- 4 flights
Southwest- 4 flights

Good experience-
first flight on the EMB170- it's an awesome plane

Not so good experience-
WN crew member yelling at me for not standing in the right group when lining up for boarding.

I could go on, but that's a nice little taster I guess Smile

This year I flew on my first Jumbo Jet: British Airways (new airline for me) 747-400. New route for me: Sea-Lhr-Bcn-Lhr-Sea all on British Airways. The approach to Barcelona was very neat, as we skirted the coast and had a great view of the port. This was also my first flight without my parents (I was with two friends). On the return flight my friends and I missed our flight in Heathrow to Seattle, because of a radar problem in France. This led to my first airline meal served on the ground, since we sat in BCN for two hours on the 767. Since we missed our flight, we got to spend the night at a hotel right by the airport where I watched planes landing all evening. I saw my first 773 (emirates). An amazing experience. I also flew Den-Oma on United which was new, but nothing special.

Good Topic!

- New airlines you flew on
- New aircraft (or series of aircraft you flew on)
- New flights/routes you've taken
- New airports you flew into/out of
- Good/bad airline experiences
- Milestones (getting your license, first solo, etc.)

Nothing much new this year, but I'll give it a go anyways.

1. New Airlines - Air Canada (YYZ-LHR-YYZ) & EasyJet (LTN-NCE-LTN)

2. New Aircraft - Airbus A340-300 (AC)

3. New Flights - EasyJet: Flight 2501 (LTN-NCE) & Flight 2508 (NCE-LTN)
Air Canada: AC 848 (YYZ-LHR) & AC 857 (LHR-YYZ)

New Routes - LTN-NCE

4. New Airports - LTN (London Luton) NCE (Nice, France)

5. Air Canada - Overall, not too bad. Delayed on the way home and no IFE, but that wasn't a big deal, especially since the flight was free!
EasyJet - Great - for the price, that is. You get what you pay for, and with a price tag of £20 each (return w/ tax) you can't be expecting much in terms of frills. What I did get, however, was on-time service, which was key, and overall, I'd fly 'em again!
LTN - Good little airport, free of the delays and congestion that plague LHR and LGW (to an extent).
NCE - Nice and modern, easy to navigate through, although the smoking sections leave a little to be desired.  Laugh out loud

Cheers - Skytrain

I flew over 25,000 miles this year and had nothing terribly exciting occur!

Highlights:
+Getting on a CO MD80 before it's too late
+Flying on every type and variant in the CO fleet, except the Cape Air C402s
+Flying Spirit's A321 (Nice ride!)
+Experiencing Continental's transatlantic product-- which I quite enjoyed!
+Flying the EMB-170 on its first day of ops

I'm pretty boring- I basically fly 4 airlines, and thats it (in order of frequency)

1. Continental
2. jetBlue
3. US Airwways
4. Northwest

All have traeted me fairly, thus I have no need to look elsewhere. The sole exception was an NK trip in November!
