Yesterday whilst trawling through the LCC website's I managed to pick up some return tickets with Easyjet LGW - CGN, £14 per person inc all taxes..! This is travelling on a Sunday in March as a day trip and to me this is an excellent price, I can't even travel by train from Southampton to London for as little as £14, which leads me on to my question...

...what's the cheapest flight ticket you've ever bought....?

Previous to this, I've managed to get tickets to DUB for £25 and PRG for £30 but never for less then £15...!

I'd be interested in your answers.

Hey Andy,

If you catch the flights on FR and U2 right, you can pick up amazing fares, which is obviously what you have done here for your trip to Cologne! On Ryanair imparticualar, they often just give tickets away for 99p, 49p or sometimes even for free. You just end up having to paying taxes, which isn't too bad considering the total fare!

I've never really booked a flight on a LCC looking for the low fare, but on my planned trip to CDG for the 2005 Paris Air Show, I can go LTN-CDG-LTN on U2 for £43 inc. tax, which doesn't sound too bad to me!

I'm interested in hearing what other people have paid for tickets....

The lowest RETURN fare I've seen, including taxes and everything else, was 11.80 GBP, from STN to ORK and back. It's often possible to get 18-19 GBP returns, inclusive of everything, from STN to PIK and back, with 9 GBP one-way deals.

The cheapest one-way ticket I have probably purchased is about 9.50 GBP from GRO to BGY. The cheapest return ticket I have probably purchased is 22.05 GBP from STN to VLC. Both of these are inclusive of everything.

It's quite easy to obtain less than 15 GBP one-way deals on two of FR's longest routes: NYO-CIA, with a block time of 3 hours, and NYO-GRO, with a block time of 3.15 hours.

I've got a great one...

Back in early '01, I had just returned to the US from LEJ on LH (visiting my then fiancee). As soon as I returned, I looked on LH's website to try and book a fare for the end of May.

Lo and behold, LH was having a ticket auction on their site (i.e. 1 ticket from XXX to YYY from date1 to date2). And one of the tickets just happened to be from BOS (my gateway of choice) to LEJ. Starting bid was $30. I put my bid in, and was the only bidder at the close, so I got it. Called up LH to get ticketed, and the CSR gave me the total with taxes and fees, and it was still just around $100. She was shocked, saying that even as an employee she couldn't travel that cheaply (doubt that, I think she was trying to be nice).

So, to sum it up:
gas to BOS $15
Ticket: $30
Taxes: $~60
The look on my fiancees face when I showed up at her door unannouced that May: $priceless

My cheapest fare was on Ryanair GRZ-STN. It was a promotional fare since Ryanair had just launched the route. It was 1p (£0.01) one way inclusive all taxes.  Smokin cool

Not that I know of. Last one I saw was on LH back in 02, and that was a ticket auction using ffm instead of $. Check out their site, maybe they'll have some more soon. Ive been out of the int'l flying game for a while now, so Ive stopped looking

Wow! Those are some good fares that you guys have gotten.

The best I've done is $100 from SIN to BKK (return) that I'm flying next week on the new Tiger Airways.

The best I've done in the US is $185 (return) from AUS to BOS on AA.

I've had a few good promo fares. The best one was when bmibaby first began operations from EMA in 2002. They were giving away seats for free, thats free with no taxes to pay either. completely free. We went to DUB, AGP and PMI that year for absolutely nothing. Fares went on sale at 06:00 so I just set my alarm for 05:50 three mornings on the trot to get the fares. Easy  Smile

The cheapest fare I have actually paid for was FR STN-HHN which was 50p again with no extra taxes. At this price I booked myself on the flight after the one I planned to go on just in case the train was delayed or I changed my mind. Whats 50p?

Like Paulianer I also got a good Germanwings fare of £1 again including all taxes from EDI-CGN in 2003.

Unfortunately the crazy days from the European LCCs seem to be over now, at least they now make you pay for your taxes.

When they launched they offered 1000 free seats including tax.

FlyBE offer flights for £9.99 return including tax and nearly all flights the tax and other charges are more than £10 so must be making a loss on these tickets.

Great fares.....however I know of some legacy airline employees who would seethe with anger when reading a thread like this. Lower airfares mean more pay and benefit cuts for them.

Just before Eastern Airlines went out of business, I purchased tickets good for 21 days worth of travel over their entire system for $ 329. Used them to travel all over the Caribbean but unfortunately only could get two weeks off from work! Now that I'm retired, sure would like to see an offer like that again.

I've had some great deals on various airlines (including Blue 1, FlyBE, easyJet and even SAS) but the one that surprised me most was when I was trying to book a daytrip to Paris to celebrate my Mum's 70th birthday. I ended up using BMI on their LHR-CDG route. The outbound flight was something like £2 (excl. taxes). The whole fare, including taxes, was only £43, which I thought was great for a daytrip, and on British Midland to boot!

And at the time when LH were trying to undercut Go on the STN-MUC route, I got a return on LH for £40 all-in, which at the time was a real bargain!
