I was just wondering if Virgin Atlantic's Premium Economy is worth the extra $500 you are asked to pay for it. I do have the money but would reather spend it on another flight if it is not worth it.

I haven't traveled on Virgin's regular economy, but I would suggest that Premium Economy is NOT worth it on A340-300s, and most certainly NOT worth it on anything but 10+ hour sectors, such as LHR-LAX, LHR-SFO, JNB etc.
If you are in YYZ, just stick with the economy and enjoy the $500 for something else.

I have flown both regular economy and premium econonmy on VS, and my position is this.
1. Only go for the premium if you can guarantee an upstairs seat (on the 744's anyway), the premium downstairs sucks.
2. Worth $500, hmmm, depends on how much you hate economy. IMHO probably not worth it, a little extra leg room, slightly better seat and a pre-flight drink is about all you get for the difference. Should try and get it on a deal if you can. If you join the flying club, they do them all the time.
