Hi,
Two of my housemates have decided they want to go to Japan this summer and I said i'd try and find them some cheap flights. Can anyone show me some places to get some cheap flights - doesn't have to be non-stop flights.
Travel dates are flexible, but preferably around the end of July 2005 and staying for about a week. Flying from the London area to Tokyo.
So far the cheapest I can find is Austrian Airlines and Air France both at about £660 rtn. inc taxes.

15th-23rd July with VS = 576.80 GBP including tax. For the same dates, BA is 598.80. AF is 582.36 GBP*.
If departing on the 15th is too early, you could fly out on the 21st and return on the 29th for 628.80 GBP on SAS.
For other dates, there's serveral fares about 630 GBP.

Unijet flights have the following fares for late July...
Aeroflot - £523.30
Heathrow-Tokyo Narita via Moscow A320/B767
Emirates - £576.90
Gatwick-Tokyo Haneda via Dubai and Osaka B773/A345
(Osaka-Tokyo-Osaka op by Japan Airlines codeshare MD-81 out/A300 return)
SirLankan - £667.90
Heathrow-Tokyo Narita via Colombo A340
I have always found Unijet an excellent scheduled fare conslidator - aside from very good prices, they also produce some interesting routes...
One tip is to use city codes rather than airport codes; typing LON-TYO instead of LHR-NRT searches all combinations between London and Tokyo. Otherwise fares like the Emirates one into Haneda wouldn't be displayed, actually that Emirates/JAL B777/A345/M81/AB6 combo sounds quite tempting!

Thanks for the info guys, just found an excellent quote for £480 return with Aeroflot inc taxes. Printed it off showed it to my mates and they were made up, cheers!
On a side note, would it be possible to make a stop off in Moscow for a few days en route, I'm thinking they would have to apply for russian visa's anyway.

Probably don't need visas as transit pax, but actually I don't think you would need visas at all to enter Russia for a few days. Aeroflot have done this route for decades, at times I think they've used a single flight number for the entire LHR-SVO-NRT trip. Aeroflot were going to fly it with the Tu144, and BA were going to fly it with Concorde, London to Tokyo via Moscow and a remote airfield in Siberia somewhere for a tech stop. Can't remember the name of it (Khabarovsk or one of those far out ones) but it's still programmed into Concorde flight simulators as a destination, although the aircraft never flew there for real.
Anyway you'll have a great trip, enjoy Japan and enjoy Russia.
Yes! Senator Obama. We are ready to believe again.

I think the airfield you are talking about is Novosibirsk. It is just below the normal route from LHR to NRT, and to HKG. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I've flown LHR-SVO-DEL-SVO-LHR before and didn't need a Russian visa as I was merely transiting. However, if you stop over you most probably will need a visa.

This is the nest place for UK - Japan flights. I use them all the time and they are helpful as well. Near green park station and Japan embassy.

Before June 15th 370 pounds on Cathay Pacific, or about 470 pounds on KLM at other times. Both allow entry into airports other than NRT or Kansai nice to know as very hot in the south at that time of year.
