Back in the 70's and 80's, there was a service between LHR and LGW with helicopters. I don't know if that counts, but it was an airline booked thing. My father and grandparents took it a few times between the airports.

Here's the average flying time (takeoff to touchdown). This was built using a route analysis tool which compiles past flights for the last couple weeks.
from ONT to LAX:
12 mins on a CRJ2
15 mins on an E120
from LAX to ONT:
16 mins on a CRJ2
18 mins on an E120

Not to change the string, but most of these routes were mainline jets at one time too.
EA had a flight I took LAX-ONT-ATL in '73 in 727-100, and also many
MIA-FLL in anything from DC9s To L1011s. (9-11min usually).

The LAX-ONT CRJ flight is not new. It's been there off and on for at least 2 years. Also, it's not a reposition flight if it's overnighting in ONT for a flight back to LAX first thing in the morning; it's a scheduled revenue flight that is always booked heavy -- hence the need for CRJ.

I warn you, this post swerves dangerously off-track!!
Many airlines have flown, and still do between the major Bay Area Airports.
AS once had a BOI-OAK-SJC-BOI, or vice versa, with a Fokker, did these turn into CRJ routes?
UA once flew MOD-SCK, scheduled at 19 minutes over 29 miles.
They even did it with a 737. UA also flew MCE-FAT, about 50 miles.
PDX-SLM, 45 miles, ILM-IAD, not sure on those miles.
UA had many interesting short-short mainline flights post deregulation when they were on the quest to operate to all fifty states.
Float-planes in and around the Puget Sound.
Before DFW, Many airlines flew GSW-DAL, like Delta and Central.
(Central merged into Frontier in late 60's)
Early Central Airlines routes averaged 20 miles.

: Last week I flew LEX-CVG on Comair... 20 minute flight. Also flew ROC-SYR on Delta...about 15 minutes, but that was a 727, not an RJ. Only ones I have
