Should be a Comair flight CVG-DAY. 63 miles. They use 50 and 70 seaters. If you aren't connecting or your connection is longer than 30 minutes, you could drive it faster.

Back in the 70's and 80's, there was a service between LHR and LGW with helicopters. I don't know if that counts, but it was an airline booked thing. My father and grandparents took it a few times between the airports.

What about the Continental Express flights from Houston's Bush airport to Houston's Ellington Field. That's got to hold some type of record.

67 and 73 Miles

The LAX to ONT flight is the shortest (47 miles). It's a re-position flight for OO. It's also new. The rest of the flights are EMB-120's.

I believe that CoEx has discontinued the IAH-EFD flights, but they probably would have been a contender -- 28 miles.

A couple of years ago, Pinnacle (NW JetAirlink) used CRJS for DTW-TOL service; which is about 50 miles.

I think LAX to ONT is 41 Miles. It's about a 15 min. flight. In normal LA traffic it is a min. 2 hour drive.

Here's the average flying time (takeoff to touchdown). This was built using a route analysis tool which compiles past flights for the last couple weeks.
from ONT to LAX:
12 mins on a CRJ2
15 mins on an E120

from LAX to ONT:
16 mins on a CRJ2
18 mins on an E120

CAE-CLT's a pretty short flight too. I seem to recall it being about 15 minutes on an ERJ.

Air Wisconsin use to do a ORD-GRB-ATW-ORD round robin flight in the 146. GRB to ATW is 22 nm. Takes about 7 minutes.

Not to change the string, but most of these routes were mainline jets at one time too.
EA had a flight I took LAX-ONT-ATL in '73 in 727-100, and also many
MIA-FLL in anything from DC9s To L1011s. (9-11min usually).

The LAX-ONT CRJ flight is not new. It's been there off and on for at least 2 years. Also, it's not a reposition flight if it's overnighting in ONT for a flight back to LAX first thing in the morning; it's a scheduled revenue flight that is always booked heavy -- hence the need for CRJ.

CO used to fly DC-9s and 737's between IAH-HOU at one time, too.

Actually the DC-9s were flown by Emerald Airways for CO.

Does American Eagle still have SNA-LAX ERJs?
I remember CO having DEN-BUR-LAX trips back in early 80s.

You're right. However, they did fly their own 737's between both airports some years ago.

I warn you, this post swerves dangerously off-track!!

Many airlines have flown, and still do between the major Bay Area Airports.
AS once had a BOI-OAK-SJC-BOI, or vice versa, with a Fokker, did these turn into CRJ routes?

SFO-OAK
SFO-SJC
OAK-SFO
OAK-SJC
SJC-OAK
SJC-SFO

UA once flew MOD-SCK, scheduled at 19 minutes over 29 miles.
They even did it with a 737. UA also flew MCE-FAT, about 50 miles.
PDX-SLM, 45 miles, ILM-IAD, not sure on those miles.
UA had many interesting short-short mainline flights post deregulation when they were on the quest to operate to all fifty states.

Float-planes in and around the Puget Sound.

Before DFW, Many airlines flew GSW-DAL, like Delta and Central.
(Central merged into Frontier in late 60's)
Early Central Airlines routes averaged 20 miles.

25 JFKLGAflyer : Last week I flew LEX-CVG on Comair... 20 minute flight. Also flew ROC-SYR on Delta...about 15 minutes, but that was a 727, not an RJ. Only ones I have
26 King penguin : AC Jazz apparently runs the odd YVR-YYJ flight on a CRJ. 39 miles. cheers, kp
