I am planning a short weekend trip to ATH and would like your opinions on this:
- Olympic is 199 Euros, but flight times are not so good and no FF-miles.
- Alitalia is 255 Euros with 50 mins connecting time in FCO.
- Lufthansa is 280 Euros with 35 mins connecting time in MUC, but has the best flight times.
What do you think would be worth the money? I am asking because so far I only know LH of these three and would like your opinion. How is AZ or OA?
I'd like to try out AZ I think but I'm afraid they'll be late and I will miss my connection in Rome... That would really ruin my trip. How is their on time record?
Also, if anybody knows any better fares for FRA-ATH, let me know

did you also consider flying A3 (Aegean Air) ? I flew with them MUC-ATH-MUC and have to say that they are great. cheaper rates than the others and excellent ervice. check it out www.aegeanair.com. just made a quick check for FRA-ATH-FRA and a price over a weekend in february came up with 138,- euro.
otherwise i would give alitalia a try.
LH means consistent but not the best service on the flight, but i will fly MUC-ATH-MUC with them in March on an award ticket.
never tried OA though.

Problem with A3 (and also OA) is that they leave Athens in the morning back to FRA. So that is actually out of the question since I am going on a Thursday night and coming back on a sunday, I want to leave on sunday evening so A3 won't fly at that time. But you're right, pricewise they seem to be good.
However, also no FF miles on any of the big ones...
On AZ and LH I could at least get Delta Skymiles or LH Miles&More in which I both actively participate...
All these flights I suggested arrive very late in ATH, AZ arrives at 0025. Do you think it is a problem getting to town at that time? I've never been to Athens before...

Thanks for your help people. Especially those links were of good use...
We finally booked now and decided to give Alitalia a try. I've flown LH quite often, so AZ will hopefully be a nice change from that.
FRA-FCO on an A319 on a thursday night;
FCO-ATH on an MD-80, arriving at 0025, but thanks to your help I have seen that there are buses running all night long Metro only runs till midnight.
ATH-FCO on an MD-80 leaving at 1915, which is great as we will still have the entire sunday;
FCO-FRA on an ERJ-170 arriving at 2315 in FRA.
so that is a good mix of aircraft. Now I'll only have to see if they are on time and if we'll be able to make the connection.
The good thing is that I will be able to collect some DL SkyMiles.
Well, we are excited to go and are really looking forward to spend an extended weekend in Athens, and it is also our first time in Greece and our first vacation since a year or so!
Let's hope the weather will be ok We'll be staying in a youth hostel downtown, that is always fun.
Thanks for the advice again. If you have any further tips for must-see sights other than the usual stuff please let me know!
Maybe I'll post a trip report about the flights soon.
