Hi everyone,

I am planning to fly the above short trip to SIN from HKG, and if both CX and SQ offers same price of about 1300 HKD (166USD) then which airline shall I go?
Both tickets do not have miles credited.

Which airline has better service, on time performance etc?
Thanks for feedbacks!

They are both great airlines. If FF miles are not a consideration, I would choose based on schedule convenience.

on-time performance are similiar, both are quite on time
SQ got better IFE (AVOD), but not really that important as the flight is a bit shorter than 4 hours and both airlines got a fair amount of channels for you to choose from. Legroom and food are similiar, but usually SQ offers icecream as dessert. However, CX usually has a better departure time compare to SQ.
I flew both on the same route before, I don't care much about which airline as their services are very similiar.

CX offers ice-cream as well in Economy class on SIN flights.
CX has 5x daily vs. 4x daily on SQ.
It's also cheaper to book directly on CX's website. It's under HK1000 excluding tax.

Tell you guys what, 1300 HKD is including tax already!
And, is that really cheap?
I am suprised to see how expensive Jetstarasia and Valuair are doing, their price is similar to both CX and SQ.
So I wonder, how well are Jetstarasia and Valuair doing there?

You might also check a consolidator that sells United. They have a single daily HKG-SIN flight operated by a B747-400.

UA's departure from HK is early evening arriving into SIN just before midnite.
Departure from SIN is early morning (like 6/7am).

I've flown both on the route. I flew CX 2 weeks ago but my decision was purely based on price. Because I didn't have 2 people to travel with me, CX was half the price of SQ.

Nice planes, crew were good too. Food on the way out from SIngapore (dinner) was average, the breakfast back to Singapore was excellent.

CX's Inflight Entertainment is more archaic than SQ's Krisworld in 1995, but adequate for a 3h15min flight.

Things that SQ has but CX does not:

Internet Check-in even for non members of SQ's FFP
Phone Check in out of Singapore
Menus in Economy Class
Porcelain plates for the Y main meal
Hot Towels
Possible Audio-Video on Demand in Y class with 60 movies. If not, normal Krisworld has 22 channels, which is more than CX's ordinary offering anyway.
Cocktails and Aperitifs in Y: CX only offered wine on my SIN-HKG sector. on SQ you could get a Singapore Sling, BLoody Mary and other aperitifs in Y.

Well if we really have to get to details, SQ has a wider range of toiletries and perfumes in their Y lavatories! (Singapore_Air, who doesn't seem to post anymore has done extensive tests on their sanitary pads, you should try contacting him regarding that!)

Things that CX has does SQ doesn't:

A330s!
Almost guaranteed Western pilots
Possibly nicer interiors as CX has just refurbished many of their regional planes.

And anyway, both airlines have 5 flights a day each to HKG! Service is very good, but different. Both offer very scripted service but at least you know what to expect and I like that. Remember, I don't mind if they're robots so long as the robots are nice to me! =)

Oh but seriously for a flight just over 3 hours, I would choose them based on price. Since they cost the same, I'd choose them based on schedule. They're both excellent airlines.
