Given the choice, I would prefer a BA744 over a Virgin 346 any day, and VS would not even be my fourth choice on the LHR-HKG route (BA, CX and QF would all rank higher).
I have found that whereas service in economy on BA is consistently good to excellent, service on VS varies from good to appallingly bad. On my last VS flight, the cabin crew tried to be 'fun' and 'lively'. Amusing at times, but very unprofessional.

The 744 in my opinion, nothing like pulling up at the gate and being the big guy , seriously, both the 744 and 340 are great, would go on the best price

Can't really comment on VS to HKG but used BA to Hong Kong last year and am flying with them this June (due to the fact that I could book a return ticket for £375 return!!!!!!). BA offer fantastic service on this route, and as said above....if you want consistent service then BA should be your choice.
