LHR-HKG VS 346 Or BA 744?

Ok.

I'm planning a trip to HKG and I have a choice of airlines. I can take VS and fly on their A340-600 or take BA and fly on their 747-400.

What are your experiences of flying this route on these airlines?

Who, in your opinion, provides the best service in economy class?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Bev xx

Given the choice, I would prefer a BA744 over a Virgin 346 any day, and VS would not even be my fourth choice on the LHR-HKG route (BA, CX and QF would all rank higher).

I have found that whereas service in economy on BA is consistently good to excellent, service on VS varies from good to appallingly bad. On my last VS flight, the cabin crew tried to be 'fun' and 'lively'. Amusing at times, but very unprofessional.

Airbus A340-600! A340-600! A340-600!

From what I have heard it is a very quiet plane and a smooth ride!

I have flown VS before and find the service incredible!

and the new V:PORT looks and sounds again from what I have heard really great!

Depends what you do on a flight...if you like to watch movies and struggle to sleep then go for VS, the IFE is much better.

If you are after consistent service go for BA, VS is very much hit or miss from what I have heard

Ok

Thanks for all your replies. We have decided to fly VS and try the A346. Will be our first time onboard any A340 so I hope we're not disappointed.

We decided this due to the increase in ticket prices by BA and the fact that VS offer better IFE (mum can't sleep on planes).

I might even make this trip the subject of my first trip report  crossfingers

P.S Many thanks go to Kev for all his info too  bigthumbsup

The 744 in my opinion, nothing like pulling up at the gate and being the big guy Big grin, seriously, both the 744 and 340 are great, would go on the best price

Can't really comment on VS to HKG but used BA to Hong Kong last year and am flying with them this June (due to the fact that I could book a return ticket for £375 return!!!!!!). BA offer fantastic service on this route, and as said above....if you want consistent service then BA should be your choice.
