I've visited this site for several weeks, but this is my first post. Thanks for all the great information and education!
I'm a UA 1K, and planning a vacation in New Zealand next Spring. My partner and I want to fly as comfortably as possible, but it needs to be on a Star Alliance flight. Should I fly first class on ANZ (777 from SFO/747 from LAX), or UA through SYD (747-400), then connect to ANZ to AKL?

NZ is removing first class on all long haul jets. New cabins will be Business, Premium Economy and Economy. NZs new long haul product is coming online in a few months. Here is a link to NZs new product

Thanks for the feedback, especially news of the new ANZ cabins ... had not heard that! In the end I suspect I'll end up flying whatever route/airline is available. Either way, when I'm back I'll post a trip report. (And yes, I'll use miles. Who can afford those fares otherwise?) But since so far I'm having no luck getting those "free" premium seats on either ANZ or UA for the dates we want, I may post again on that topic!)
Quoting Aerorobnz (Reply 2): What about SQ from LAX-SIN-AKL? That'd be pretty sweet. It'd cost more, but you are 1K so would probably have the miles.
A bit out of the way, but fascinating idea. I checked, but since it was such a huge backtrack, SQ wouldn't consider it a single trip. Nice thought though.
