I'll be staying in Tokyo July 27 to August 10 and was wondering if there are any cheap flights I could take from there. Like under $300 or $400. any advice? I'm willing to go just about anywhere.

Where do you wanna go? Asia's air traffic has a lot of widebodies in service, specially within Japan. Any specific place, aircraft you wanna fly?

I'm not concerned about aircraft type, or place, just the price. I'm sure whateve route I fly it will be different to what I'm used to. I live in the New York area.

The only problem is you are traveling at the before obon. This is the summer travel season for the Japanese. It is when everyone seems to go to their hometown or overseas. Prices skyrocket.

Check out IACE travel. They have tons of deals from Tokyo in yen. They have U.S. offices that offer good deals as well.

There are bout 60 to 70 destinations in Asia to choose from that depart from Tokyo Narita. Domestically you are limited.

Round trip from:
NRT to BKK about $450
NRT to HKG about $420
NRT to ICN about $310
NRT to PVG about $480
NRT to TPE about $340

Good luck.

Yes...I am not a KIX fan. Let's Japanese Aviation!

After July 20, prices for tickets stay high until end of August. The dates you mention would just below peak prices. Peak prices occur 2nd/3rd week of August.
You wouldn't be able to travel round-trip on any of two Japanese majors on domestic flights during your mentioned dates. Perhaps some of the low-cost carriers are still affordable during this period.
Your are best off checking at your local travel office for good deals, there probably are still some left.

Thanks for the help.

I'm pretty much locked in to traveling then since both of my friends I am visiting are teachers who are off during that time like the rest of Japan. I'm guessing maybe we'll take a train somewhere.

What are some low cost carriers in Japan?
