As some of you may have already gatherd from my previous posts, it's always been my dream to fly first. I currently have around 16,000 miles in my CO FF account, and I'm real exited about that. I'll most likely by flying CO this December. What's the easiest way to make sure that the upgrade will go through? Do I need a special fare? I usually use Orbitz to book my flights. Will I need a "refundable" ticket?

Look on CO's website - sometimes the fare will be around $10 less than Orbitz (which is the 3rd party booking fee). There it will tell you all about upgrades and how to get them, which fare classes they apply to (no you don't necessarily need a refundable fare), and so on. Failing that, phone the OnePass reservations centre - they're usually very helpful.
Pick a route that isn't always full to the brim. Midweek travel is usually best but it depends on the route. Avoid trans-Atlantic routes as you have to pay a hefty surcharge (US$450 springs to mind).
