Hello,
I need to go to Rio next month, and I need an advise with which airline to go. My options are:
* AF, all the way
* LY to MAD, and IB to GIG
* LH to FRA and Varig to GIG
Which should I choose?
- The price is not the same - LH is much more expensive, LY/IB is mid range and AF is the cheapest
- MCT is more or less the same
- Equipment is also different: AF - A320 and B747-400; LY - B757-200 / IB - A340; LH - B747-400 / Varig - MD11
So, which would you choose, and why?
My heart is more or less going to the direction of AF, but I haven't decided yet

I just discovered a couple of weeks ago that Aviancas fares in Business Class for a flight going MAD - BOG - GIG are by far cheapest. You would have a second stop, on the other hand you could travel Business Class for about $ 2000.-
I don't know if stopovers are allowed. If yes, Bogotá is a very nice town, spend a night there!
Enjoy your trip and once in Rio don't forget to have an ice cream on the sugar loaf.

One little comment: RG will use in some days next month the 777-200ER into GIG-FRA.
Looking to your options, AF will add more points/miles into FF program (same to Star Aliance), it's the cheap one, and every time is good to travel in a 747-400. Furthermore AF has a special care with GIG-CDG, very good service, good and clean planes and always on time. At the same time probably it's the fastest trip and it's non-stop (BA and AV stops in São Paulo). More time available to drink chopp's at the Beaches !

Why? Does SN have plans for GRU/GIG?
In my opinion AF would be the best among the options you mentioned. As stated above, AF's flight to GIG is excellent.
As a second option, have you tried TAP flight via LIS (A340), they usually have very attractive fares. LH+RG via FRA is also very good, but AF is still better.
Btw, there were rumours that El Al would fly to Brazil. Anyhting in this respect? I would be great to see El Al B747 in GIG!
