Well, DL does have 5 outstanding 772s on order, however they were deferred until a later date. I've also heard rumors that DL wants to sell these 5 particular 777s or at least their delivery slots. As for Delta to order the 787,.. hell, anything is possible if DL can improve their financial health. Let remember that Delta, along with American & Northwest are the only 3 legacy carriers left not to have file for Chapter 11...yet. I hope it stays that way. Regards.

I think given that DL returns to profitability, they would be best served by replacing the 762/763/764/777 with the 787. This would save money in terms of maintenance and training and all sorts of other things.
If routes like ATL-NRT and ATL-CDG need more capacity, they can increase the frequencies. For instance, ATL-LGW is 4x daily with the 763.
Regardless, DL needs to do something about its international fleet. The 763 is very comfortable from a passenger standpoint, but these planes need to be made-over with PTVs, better seats, redesigned BizElite, etc.
