I am due to visit Knock next weekend flying from LGW. Although I normally avoid the LCCs, on this particular route easyJet and Ryanair are the only operators. There is little difference in flight times, easyJet departs at 14:00 returning at 15:55, FR departs at 16:45 returning at 18:40. The current fare on easyJet is £204.98 and on FR £258.97 (so much for the "low cost")!
Which is the more bearable of the two - SqueasyJet or Ryanair?

You're right BCAL, there's nothing low-cost about £200+ for the "pleasure" of travelling with either EZY or FR. In my humble opinion you should plump for EZY, not only are they cheaper in your case but I would say better than FR anyway.

Quoting Ryanair737 (Reply 5): I prefer Ryanair, easyJet have disappointed me too many times and I won't fly with them again. Ryanair also fly to much more interesting destinations.
I don't think you can really say that .After all Ryanair does noit fly the so called more interesting destinations but pretend to do so by flying a city 100 km away from it ! That's just not very fair from them.
Quoting HT (Reply 3): EZY - they deliver the better product when compared to FR.
could you give some examples other than reclinable seats. I've always wondered in which aspects they compare. Thanks

I prefer easyJet - staff was nicer, planes were nicer (although Ryanair phased out their 737-200s), boarding is less chaotic due to groups of boarding, etc...

I think it is perfectly fair as they offer some destinations that you wouldn't be able to fly direct to without connecting at another airport, and they prove very popular with passengers. Maybe I would like to go to Santander instead of Bilbao? Maybe I would like to go to Karlsruhe Baden instead of Stuttgart? Do you get what I'm saying?

That is the problem with last minute booking, if they only have a handful of seats left they can charge what they want for them. Six months ago you'd probably have paid £40.

Strangely I found a better deal departing from LCY and flying to GWY, which is nearer my destination. The fare is £148 and the airline 3W (EuroManx Airways). I have to admit I have never heard of them, and I wonder if any a.net members have any experiences flying with them?
MOL on SRB's latest attack at BA: "It's like a little Chihuahua barking at a dying Labrador. Nobody cares."
IIRC they have been around for quite a while and are expanding recently.
Flying out of LCY always is a good choice, but seeing that you will have to drive / travel past LGW in order to reach LCY, you should make sure that you just don´t spent those bucks saved on the flight for a longer travel on the road / the rail ...
I assume that you are familiar with LCY and its location ? (crossing the river Thames from your hometown might become busy at certain times ...)
Something that puzzled me on their (3W) website is the statment "Our flights are operated by EuroManx Airways GmbH." That "GmbH" is a typical german term for a company-type: "Gesellschaft mit beschraenkter Haftung" which translates in to "Ltd". Using "GmbH" is quite unusual for a carrier from the Isle of Man.

@HT
Thanks for the info. True, it will cost more for me to get from Brighton to LCY. and that I will pass LGW on the way, but I will save more than this extra by flying into GWY which is closer to my destination. And I also avoid flying with a LCC!
I was also puzzled by GmbH on the EuroManx website. If it this is a German term for a company-type, bearing in mind that the Isle of Man is well-known for offshore companies, I guess that EuroManx must be registered in Germany.
Cheers, BCal

... could also be Swiss-registered. Maybe I will find out something.
Enjoy your flight from LCY. I really like this very easy to navigate airport - that is as long as those carpark exits do work. Last week it didn´t accept my credit card that I used to get into the parking lot earlier that day. I had to reverse, park my car again, head back to the terminal building, find a representative (at the info-desk), got my creadit card charged manually, got a ticket to ecit the carpark, walk back to may car again: Thar whole action delayed my departure by about 20 minutes (happend to other people also, who first made fun about me ... ).
Seemed to be a temporary problem, as I didn´t encounter the same problem at LTN and BHX in the following days, but made me think a bit about using my credit card to get into parking lots ...
Access to LCY will undoubtedly become much better once that new station of the DLR is open outside the Terminal; access to the Isle of Dogs and to the City will become much easier.
And that is of course not only for pax but also for spotters, as those park banks outside the terminal are very good in order to watch runway-action.

You've made the right choice!
EZY are a much better airline. It's a brand new A319 or a 30 year old 737 that's about to fall out of the sky. If you've already done the 732 then nothing to worry about, you're not missing out, i only flew FR for that reason.
FR were quite simply awful! They left us stood in line for over an hour with no announcement or reason for delay. The seat in front had a gaping hole in it and there wasn't a life jacket under my seat either way!
I have flown EZY many times, pretty much always on the 319. In fact I flew to ORK from LGW with them a few weeks ago. Punctual, proffessional and fantastic service as always.

You have to book in advance, that's how these carriers work. I got ORK rtn on EZY for £20 inc taxes!

I fly on both airlines , I must say Easyjet is the better airline. Better service wins the vote . If you guys do ever try Jetstar Asia, you will prefer flying Easyjet or Ryanair any day.

I could not have put it better myself.
I have flown with both and ryanair have a 100% record for me and my family regarding punctuality, baggage, staff freindliness etc. If there was less of a difference in price I would fly on FR without a second thought. As I am budget limited price does sway my decision when booking flights. All other airlines that I have flown have had problem one way or another(BA, Easyjet, Jet2, jetstar, virgin blue, Britannia, Emirates)
