Flown Eastern Airways (T3)?

Has anyone ever flown aboard Eastern Airways (T3)? If so, how would you rate it in terms of everything before, during and after your experience? Did you receive exceptional and unforgettable helping? What inflight refreshments did you receive? Were you as stressed and anxious as with flights aboard other airlines? Please tell me all about it.  Smile

They are a business orientated airline, so do their best to please their customers, which is why they are so high priced. I've not flown them myself, but know people who have, apparently you get offered a glass of champagne on every flight. They have a very good dispatch rate, their flights are rarely delayed, at least those from the Isle of Man anyway.

Yes, they target specific market segments, for instance businesspeople and those who have no other option but to fly, but that per se does not mean its service is extraordinarily good and unforgettable. The same applies to its prices: just because they're high, does not per se mean that you're going to be treated like royalty. You would expect it to be exceptional, but that is why I submitted this thread: to see, from personal experiences, whether it actually is or not and how it can be improved still further.

Yes, I have heard this. But is this a 'WOW' factor? If it was served chilled and with strawberries and whatever, then yes. See, champagne, if a mere mm and hot and in a plastic beaker, would not be good, so there's far more to it than merely being served a particular type of drink.

I know someone who travelled on them in bad weather, and said that on the J41 it was the scariest flying experience he has had - crosswinds at MAN, and flying low through turbulence.

Last year I flew on Eastern's Saab 2000 (SE-LOX I think) from NCL to SOU. The price was OK, I think around 60 GBP for a one-way which I would not consider expensive.

A "Wow" feeling? No, not really, besides the wonderful aircraft  Wink. But the service at the airport was decent and quick, no long queues, no running and pushing for the best seats, generous space on board and a very relaxing atmosphere. A snack, I think some pretzels or so, was served. Can't remember the Champagne any more. 2 cabin crew were on board to ensure a quick, attentive and smooth service. The flight was also exactly on time.

I would fly Eastern any time again whenever the route/timing is convenient.

I've flown on Eastern James, and i must say it was on of the most interesting flights i have ever been on, apart from the time i flew a plane! I flew from NWI to MAN on 1 of their J32s after holidaying with my then girlfriend and her family, and we flew back up to mine. Arrived at NWI bout an hour and half prior to depature, check-in, had a drink with her parents, then we went through. Sat down in the seating area before boarding was called. Boarding was done easily, only 6 pax on this flight, walked over to the a/c and up the steps at the back, and took our seats on the right-hand side on row 2. I remember the cockpit door being left open for the entire flight so i got a good view of what was going on and what flight level we were at. Didnt get any champagne, just got a glass of coke and a biscuit, then a mint before landing.

Id definitely fly with them again, mainly because i love the smaller a/c they operate and they are really good to fly. Plus, the fare i got was only about £20 more than the train back from norwich, but took around 5 hours less! Definitely worth it.

My wife works for Eastern at their IOM subsidiary. She is quite impressed with the organisation and the efforts made to ensure schedules are kept and the aircraft standards are good.

The complimentary champagne is served on all flights and reflects the airline's primarily business orientation.

I had dealings with Eastern when the J-41's were handed over and they seemed to be a very efficient organisation and I wouldn't hesitate to fly with them.

Of course, I do get staff travel through the missus so maybe I'm a tad biased Big grin

As a former T3 employee who worked at their Humberside base, I can certainly vouch that the company has always done their very best at putting it's customers first. I would like to say that whilst the onboard service is one of the most obvious ways a passenger will judge an airline, punctuality is also critical (safety, obviously is the most important) and it is often the behind the scenes work which ensures an excellent, quality service too.

For example, punctuality was hugely important to T3. Crews had to give a written explanation of any delays of departure of more than 15 minutes from the scheduled time, although relatively speaking these were quite low in number, all explanations were passed daily to the respective Fleet Manager (J41 or J32) who then decided whether the reason was acceptable, whether the delay was T3's fault and whether any preventative measures could be taken to prevent such a delay reoccurring. Any reasons deemed unsuitable, or if a crew neglected to give a reason for more than 15 minutes delay resulted in the captain of the flight involved receiving a stern phone call from the fleet manager asking for a full explanation.

Another instance of excellent customer service which passengers perhaps are not aware of was that on the rare occasions an aircraft went tech, wherever possible a flight from another airport would be redirected to pick up the stranded passengers. I can recall flights such as EMA-LBA-ABZ, HUY-MME-ABZ and HUY-LBA-ABZ being operated, ensuring that passengers, whilst perhaps arriving at their eventual destination a few minutes later than expected, did actually get there! I think most carriers would simply say "Bugg€r you, we'll stick you in hotel for the night!" and that's if you're lucky!

Such efforts perhaps go unnoticed by most passengers, but if these things were not carried out then the likelihood of having disgruntled passengers increases greatly. Achieving excellence is about giving your customers exactly what they want and minimising the opportunity for situations to arise which may alienate them.

Very well said... and this is exactly (besides Safety) what I expect from a good airline and what I am willing to pay for.

Only flew once on Eastern and paid by myself. But I don't think that 60 or 65 GBP for a 1h flight between two regional airports is overpriced or requires to be a millionaire? Considering the operating cost of a 20-50 seater turboprop this is an absolutely fair deal.

Only a few years ago, the usual oneway fare within continental Europe was around 300 EUR (appr. 200GBP) for a 1h hop like LUX-TXL. So 60GBP is less than a third of that.

I paid aorund £90-£100 for my one way fare, and considering Arriva trains wanted about £80 for ticket for a journey that would take over 5 hours, i definitely thought it was worth the bit extra for the T3 journey, plus its not everyday you get to fly a jetstream. I love flying on small a/c so this was great.

Orion, I'm surprised you ever fly at all. Over a number of months I've seen you criticising the charter carriers, LCC's, BA CitiExpress , bmi and now T3 for various reasons (usually the lack of a hot meal and cup of tea included in the fare price). I'm sure we'd all love to know, is there an airline in the UK you actually do approve of?
