I don't know about you, but i have quite a few airplane books. there are numorous pictures with a caption that states:

"here, the pilot hand flies the aircraft while the First Officer handles the radios."

now, when you study the picture, the engines are off, avionics are off, radios are off, and so on. I call it a "cheap shot."  bored

So....What is your point? And what would you like done? You don't even show us one of these terrible offensive photos.  hissyfit

The problem is with the caption writer not the photograph. Most of the type of book that you describe are aimed at the casual reader not the die hard enthusiast. They wouldn't know the difference.

I have a book somewhere that shows a picture of a 747SP coming in for a landing. In the shot you can clearly see the yellow lines of the runway overrun as the aircraft glides in over them. The caption states that aircraft is taking off.

People don't know what kind of cars they drive, they probably are clueless about planes.

It was probably a bad angle or bad lighting, misleading the caption writer. Got a pic for us?

Flying an aeroplane with only a single propeller to keep you in the air. Can you imagine that? -Capt. Picard
