Back in the early 1970's, Overseas National Airlines operated 2 or 3 DC-9 cargo planes that carried JATO bottles (4 bottles, 2 per side) in the fairings aft of the wheel wells. Anyone out there have any pictures of these planes where your can see the bumps in the fairings for the bottle nozzles, or even better, a picture of one taking off with the bottles going? I seem to remember seeing a picture in an aviation magazine back then. I'm sure the installation was test flown, and someone must have taken pictures. Please post them up if you can find them. Thanks.

Aviation Week and Space Technology had a shot of a ONA Jato -9 on the cover of a '69 or 70 issue. Don't think they ever used them.

Dc863: Seems to me that's where I saw the photo. I've looked in libraries all over the country and can't find any archives that go back that far. So I'm still looking. Thanks.
