I'm curious to find out what the cheapest international destination would be flying either a 747 or 777 from say Los Angeles, or San Francisco.

What's the cheapest fare I can get on one of these wide bodies to any international destination?

Thanks!

I picked up a return from LHR-SFO for $470 in November with VS.

That was a sale offer though.

I would have to say JFK-LHR route might be one of the cheapest international route...

Usually JFK-LHR with AI is pretty cheap but not sure the service is that good.....btw, check BA website I was watching TV last week and an ad for BA came on advertising fares to LHR for like $200 from NYC and pretty much anywhere in Europe for about the same and then like BOM for like $600....did anyone else see this commercial?

What about the ads on this site, offering $139 one way from JFK to LHR on BA? That's $278 round trip, w/o taxes...

What makes you think the service can't be good? AI inflight service is no better or worse than most airlines and in large part depends on the crew and their personalities. Just like any other airlines including the highly regarded companies like Singapore, Malaysia and Cathy Pacific.

The fun of flying... love it !!!

Since the question was for travel originating from:

Los Angeles, or San Francisco

... I'd suggest checking the weekly e-fares for UA and NW, who quite often have pretty good deals for international travel from week to week. You can sign up for the notification e-mails at united.com and nwa.com respectively. The travel on NW will get you a 747 out of LAX to NRT, and on UA from LAX or SFO nearly all their international destinations will be a 747 or 777 (a few here and there are 767 so check first).

You can also check with some of the ethnically-oriented travel agents who often have unpublished fares designed for VFR traffic.

Don't forget AA and BA which both fly 777s out of LAX. AA flies them to London and NRT.

ANA flies the 773ER to LAX now, no?

you can do lax-nrt on sq or ua for under $600. not exactly cheap, but SQ 747 service is pretty nice, no?

Also this site comes in handy...

Look for the city-specific fare listings. It is very slow and clunky and littered with ads, but the guy who runs it really looks out for good fares and I have found some snazzy ones on there.

Sorry I guess I was being a lil prejudice but aren't AI 747 really old and not PTV's.......I am sure the personal service from the FA cannot be judged and compared with others fairly since it depends on who you get
