Hi everyone,
I need to get just another 1844 elite miles this year to get to platinum with Continental. I am based in the UK, so I'm looking for European mileage runs...
Any ideas on an interesting - and cheap - way of doing this with any Sky Team airline? Thanks!

Hi again,
Silly me - I forgot to give you a starting airport. Any London airport will do, but preferably LGW/LTN/LCY/LTN in that order.
EWR - is a bit beyond my budget at the moment I think and I can't face another transatlantic having just gotten off one yesterday with two more trips planned for the year.

KL via AMS from LHR:
- a weekend in Vienna: 220 €, sunday rule
- ditto for ZRH or GVA: 210 €
- ditto for FCO: 210 € etc.
In case you don´t want to stay for a weekend, make 2 flight bookings (all onKLM via AMS, but not mentioned below for easier understanding):
#1: LON - ZRH on Friday; return ZRH - LON on Sunday
#2: ZRH - LON on Friday, return LON - ZRH on Sunday
That way you´ll make two roundtrips Lon - ZRH - LON: one on Friday, the other one on Sunday (days are flexibel; as long as you comply with the "sunday rule" the prices should be okay). Flights to Switzerland will enable you also to bring home cheap tax-free cigarettes on every flight (resell them and you can cover some of your travel expenses ).
Variation: Make two open-jaw return bookings in such a way that you fly on the first day to GVA and the second day to ZRH (destinations should be located within one country in order to get best rates). That way you´ll get two cities ...
Did I make my point clear ? If not don´t hesitate to ask.

KL will likely be your cheapest bet, especially once those winter fares start rolling out. Look for flights on KL to SVO, IST, BUD, ATH (via AMS, obviously) on their "Specials" portion of the website once Nov/Dec roll around. Those locations should garner you the miles you need at a reasonable price during those months (depending on if they're offered as specials). Sometimes even locations in equatorial Africa are listed at decent prices as specials (Malabo and Lagos come to mind)...but if EWR is out of your price range (Shame the $360 return fares EWR-BRS [dates checked 11/12/05-11/20/05] aren't valid for those originating in the UK), then Africa's prolly out of your price range as well.
Bear in mind that BRS-EWR in S/Q fare class (100% EQM's when booked on Continental.com) Departing 11/12/2005 and returning 11/13/2005 is only $423.00 (or about 238 Pounds at today's exchange rates).
