Discussing yesterday with employees from one of these four big European companies, they all agree about how bad their company's service was.

I've flown in all four and I would say KL's has the best service but what do you think.

I'm interested has these are all long established companies and with a good reputation but are they worth it.

I've omitted smaller airlines and also AY and IB, in this case to avoid nasty comments Big grin

I´ve also flown in all four in in my opinion BA has the best service an domestic and international routes.
AF is also quite good, but on AF i had the luck to fly on 77W and this is really a great plane.
LH was a disappointment for me, I had big expectations to LH, because my dad is a loyal costumer, and not all have been fulfilled.
KL was nice, but not so good as BA or AF was.

I haven't tried KL yet, but of the others I'd say on board service is best on BA, then AF, followed by LH. From LAX, depending on the usual factors I often choose LH simply because connecting in LHR is a pain IMHO. Any connection in MUC is worth the slight downgrade in onboard service to me. I know you eliminated smaller carriers, but I choose LX whenever I have the chance. Nice aircraft, nice service, and ZRH is a treat relative to other hubs in Europe (and the US) with MUC being about equal in my mind.

BA I think. The service is just right - friendly, yet professional. Another I highly recommend in Finnair - you get some russian babushka types but they're very nice!  Smile

I agree for Swiss don't know about Finnair but I only wanted to put bigger companies  Wink

Otherwise, I would have put SAS in top of the list.

I have flown all the four and would put KLM to the top. Since my fist flight with them, I have always crossed the pond on one of their aircraft. Great airline with great people.

This question is asked many times in this forum, but I think there is no answer to that. Some people like AF, others BA. KL and LH also have their fans. It's all about your personal preferences and what YOU think it's important. I flew many airlines (a.o. KL, AF, SN, IB, AZ, NW, DL, CO, WN and many others). I've had both good AND bad experiences with KL, just good experiences on NW (!!) and so on. One bad flight doesn't make an airline a BAD airline and a good flight doesn't necessarily mean that it's always good. I hope you get my point.

Yes you're quite right although I'd like to point out I've flown with each one of them more than once.

I didn't have any bad experience with any of them apart from LH 747's seat pitch which is pretty bad.

But that's my point in fact, I can't see any of their service being very particular. They simply give you enough when we hear so many good things about the service kings: CX, SQ...

AF is the only one of those I haven't tried. But out of the other three which I all frequently use on both long and short hauls, I'd have to say....

1.KL
2.BA
3.LH

I agree AY's older ladies are nice, but what they have to do with "russian babushka"??  scratchchin

Isn't babushka the word for grandmother?
I've read books where the typical russian style old lady, large, slightly overpowering figure was referred to as a 'bubushka'.

Whatever, they were all very nice (even on the MD80 in Y flying HEL-OUL-RVN 10 at night!  Smile)

All,

My list would be:

Economy:

KL
LH
AF
BA

Business:

LH
AF
BA

(I've never flowin KL in business class).

Off topic, however BA also gets criticism from myself regarding puntuality. I've flown LH on 14 flights this year and none have been more than 10 minutes late. I've flown BA756 about six times since they took the slot from Swiss and I have never arrived on time.

Just my 5 Rappen

Cheers

Buckieboy

You had a fist flight with them and they haven't banned you from flying their airline???

Oh, you meant "first flight"!?

KL all the way... I've appreciated their attentiveness towards customers, good food and whats not to love about those nice Dutch accents?

Interesting topic. I'm travelling ARN-ORD next summer on either KL, BA or AF.
I have tried KL and BA and liked them both, although BA gets a higher vote from me thanks to the PTV:s and the amenity kits. I liked KL's interior better though and transfering at AMS was nice and smooth.

How does AF's IFE compare to BA's on the CDG-ORD route?
