Which do you think is the best? All terms included (this includes airport lounges, on-board service, food/dining, actual seat, etc.).

Note I am not talking about the "new" LH business class, but the "old"/older business class.

Quoting Uaalltheway (Thread starter):
airport lounges

Well they share a lot of the same lounges, so if you are flying a route that both carriers fly and have the choice between the two, then you get to use the same lounge in either airport, so it doesn't really matter. But I have found that LH's Senator lounge is nicer than the Red Carpet Club since it has a few more offerings like more food selections, showers and computers. But it really depends on how crowded they are. An empty lounge is far superior to a crowded one regardless of some offerings.

Quoting Uaalltheway (Thread starter):
on-board service

It is hard to go either way again. I have had professional and curteous service on both carriers. LH might be a little more personable, but I think it depends more on the individual serving. LH and UA both have their good and bad flight attendants. But either way you will be taken care of and not overly fussed about. Meals are a little slow due to understaffing, but in every other way unless you want someone coddling you like a butler, you will be pleased with the service.

Quoting Uaalltheway (Thread starter):
food/dining

I personally prefer the LH food. I have flown both carriers on multiple occasions, but have had better experiences with the food on Lufthansa since it seems to be more consitently good. But there isn't a huge difference and it is likely to be up to your culinary preferences. I have found that full dinner services are always superior to lunch even if they both are three course meals.

Quoting Uaalltheway (Thread starter):
actual seat

LH's new seat is far superior since it is lie flat, but also is comfortable in a semi reclined position. But compared to the old LH seat, I prefer United's seat. To begin with the UA seat has seven extra inches of legroom and is about an inch wider. Due to the extra size and space, I far prefer te United seat over the old Lufthansa seat.

The verdict is that I would go for United over the old Lufthansa seat since the two carriers are similar in three ways and different in one way. United is better compared to the old Lufthansa and Lufthansa is better with teh new seat.

I definitely prefer LH biz service and seats over UA. I'm not saying that UA is bad. Just a personal preference.

Thanks for the replies. Actually (and Check77 this answers your question also) I have a choice of either Business on UA on a 767-300 IAD-MUC or Biz on an LH A340 (the two-class version, which I guess would have Connexion and the NEW business class). I've flown biz on UA's 767s a couple times now, both domesticly, and their pretty old aircraft. And with the possible option of LH's new business class wanted to get some imput. Maybe I'll do LH out, UA back or something. LH's new business class is extremely appealing.  Smile Especially with the lie flat seats.

This one is quite a tricky topic. Although LH's new lie flat seat is far superior to the recliner of UA, the risk of being stuck with LH's older C Class product is enough to put me off flying with them. I recently flew on the 763 and 777 of United in Business (no prizes to guess the better plane) and both were very good. The legroom on both planes is pretty standard apart from the front Business Cabin on the 777 which has 50inches instead of 55. However having said that the service is much better because there are only two rows for the whole cabin and as a result one gets fed first.

In regards to food. United meals are generally very good. The meal service is nothing like you would get on Emirates or Singapore but still worth the extra.

Paul,

Same here. Although you can ask if it's a 2-class or 3-class aircraft and you can lookup the routes the "new" business class is on.. but if for some reason there was an aircraft swap that wouldn't be good.. or if because of fares I had to route through somewhere that had the 3-class aircraft - that's why I started this thread.
