I ran across this in in the paper lastweek, and I wanted to share it. What are your thoughts on this? I would think MUC would be a better contender from PHX than FRA, with the feed from fellow Star carrier US Airways I think that they could make it work this time around.

What do would they open the route with A343? Or maybe a A346?

Like they stated the Merger played a prime role in the decision and upon aircraft I could see an A343 being a great aircraft for that route.

Just my two Cents!

Return of LH to PHX has been speculated about & discussed in many threads recently.
I would love to see LH back at PHX as connections to other airports in in the southern portion of the Tri-States area (CalNevAri) on US/HP probably will be much more convenient than connecting through LAX (including changing terminals at LAX).
OTOH an extra service to PHX probably will not only take away some pax from LH´s LAX-service(s), but also from DE´s service to LAS.

Regarding a/c to PHX: Initially I don´t see anything bigger than a A343 on that route, but will an A343 see load restrictions during summer in hot´n´high PHX ?

Regarding the load restrictions during summer with the 343. Not a problem since that what LH flew for two years, and they departed from PHX at 1500hrs which is the hottest time of the day. It would be great to get LH back, as BA's service leaves so late in the day it doesn't allow for great connections to much of continent.

My records show that my flt FRA - PHX in mid-April 2001 was carried out by a A340-200, which by then was LH´s "route-opening" a/c.
Was a A343 later assigned to that route ?
In its final months a B763 leased from NG was used ...
