Well, I cannot vote because, once again, there's not a single pairing in there in which I've flown on both airlines... in fact, out of all these airlines, the only one that I have flown on is Air Zimbabwe.

And I'll just repeat what I've said before - having done several longhauls on them (as well as several shorthauls), I can say with 100% certainty that the one thing Air Zimbabwe does not deserve is a "Worst Airline Award".

On all my flights, their F/As have never been anything but outstandingly friendly and attentive towards passengers, with meals actually not just being edible but tasty.

A lot of airlines do deserve this "award" - Air Zimbabwe does not.

Frank

How can CSA be the worst airline if they are one of a small amount of airlines serving HOT meals in European flight. How can they be the worst if they win the BEST EASTERN AND CENTRAL EUROPEAN award every year since I remember?
This competition is crap. As Leskova said, almost nobody here have flown all the airlines, so the judgement come from "livery" and fleet. The same goes for Mexicana. Excelent service. TACA, for example is much worse and West Carribean Airways is the WORST. Not a fair judgement at all. Let the expert from Zagat or SkyTrax handle these "awards".
Just so angry.

= Agreed to some extent. I think I might be one of the few to have flown on all these carriers. UM service is good ... when it actually takes off! Service is much more than inflight. For me, UM has had the worst cancelled flights/overbooked flights/delayed flights than any airline I have flown. DT is pretty good in comparison. Again, its relative.

= I have flown CSA and I can tell you that even in the Eastern/Central European region, I prefer LOT and MALEV hands down anyday. In the semi-finals, I voted for Iberia - because I think its worse than CSA. However, people voted otherwise. Anyways, if you are content with Zagat or Skytrax, you should be happy with that. Is there a point to be angry with a bunch of A.Netters discussing airlines? Personally, I think Skytrax is the most biased unscientific survey - you forget, its also VOTE.IN and major carriers will always be favoured. Its not like Skytrax actually performs consistent surveys for each of the 1000 airlines in the world. So without a consistent benchmark, EVERY survey becomes relative. Anyways, just take this as one as well - another unscientific survey based on people's experience.

Cheers,
A.

PS - Perhaps CSA is great, (BTW, its NOT won all the Skytrax regional awards), but to discredit every member who votes here is equally disarming.

I apologize for the late posting ... had a family emergency. Here are the winners of the 1st Annual Worst Airline Service Awards (drum roll).

WORST AIRLINES IN THE WORLD:

1/ Asia

Winner -------- Air China
Runners up ---- PIA
Semi-Finalists -- China Eastern & China Southern

Commentary --- Despite growth in the economy, airline services don't grow at top 4 has 3 Chinese airlines.

2/ Europe

Winner -------- CSA
Runners up ---- Olympic
Semi-Finalists -- Aeroflot & Iberia

Commentary --- Perhaps surprise winners, but CSA beats AF in the quarter finals, and IB in the semifinals. Guess the airline to stay out of. Also, CSA is the only airline of the 3 major alliances to be declared WORST.

3/ North America & Caribbean

Winner -------- Mexicana
Runners up ---- Cubana
Semi-Finalists -- ATA * BWIA

Commentary --- Another suprise winner pehaps as Mexicana beats CU in the final. Interestingly, Latin Americans increasingly voted MX as the worst over non-Latin Americans. Perhaps its because they know how bad MX is?

4/ MENA

Winner -------- Royal Air Maroc
Runners up ---- Tunisair
Semi-Finalists -- Emirates & Royal Jordanian

Commentary --- RAM is bad. It won all rounds with ease. "Award winning" Emirates is apparently pretty bad as they enter top 4 in a region filled with pretty crappy airlines.

5/ South & Central America

Winner -------- TAME
Runners up ---- Santa Barbara
Semi-Finalists -- Aeropostal & GOL

Commentary --- Interesting competition and quite a few surprises - TAME wins hands down.

6/ Africa

Winner -------- Air Zimbabwe
Runners up ---- TAAG
Semi-Finalists -- Air Mad & Air Seychelles

Commentary --- Despite spirited lobbying by LESKOVA, Air Zim wins hands down. Perhaps attributable to their horrible reputation?

Thanks all for taking part. While some did not agree with the competition, in the end ... like ALL posts at Airliners.net, this was about airlinefreaks having fun. Nothing more.

Cheers and happy new year,
A.
