A new post off another thread.....

I waited 70 minutes for my luggage at LAX once off an AC flight.

I assume there was a ramp crew shortage or an equipment break down, however, we were never informed of the situation nor were there any agents around to ask. When it did show, it was 3 carousels away from what had been advertised.

Cheers,

Bill

Some relatives of mine had to wait 3 days for theirs because it was put on the wrong plane by the baggage handlers, Instead of going from ORD to AVP, it went from ORD to somewhere in California and they had to find it for them. Sad thing is I hear this happens quite often, which is why I only take enough stuff to fit on a carry on.

Well plus a lot of the times when you are one of the first bags on you are the last ones off and on big planes they wait con go pretty high up there. But what is odd is that when I go on trips with my family and we all check bags at the same time and they can come out like 10 minutes apart from each other. It gets annoying.

well you must realize that the bags aren't kept in the order they were checked in?

I've had to wait :53 @ GRR (very small station, unacceptable time) once on NW. I figured out why this happens, the same crew that unloaded the luggage immediately then loaded the luggage on the aircraft's outbound flight. Then, they took the unloaded luggage to the baggage claim carosel. Good use of staff time to turn planes, makes passengers wait...

So far about 30 minutes in YYZ last Thursday after a full A330 flight from YUL. I think there were lots of CNX pax since I heard quite a few gates being announced on the flight.

Well in that case, I was picking up my aunt and her family at the airport who flew down here to CLT from BOS and we had to wait about an hour for their luggage. It was US Airways, not a surprise.

Everyone I know has had baggage horror stories, again, why I always use carry on.

9 days!

A friend of mine and his wife went to Miami on a 10 days tour and got their baggage the day before going home.

But then they got a lot more than they delivered at check-in. The weight had trippled during those 9 days.

They were told that the case had been dropped on the tarmac at some transit airport (I think it was Baltimore). The case had been completely broken and it had been left right there in the rain for a week.

Everything - suits, dresses etc. - was completely rotten and smelled like horse shit. It was impossible to find an airline which would touch it, not even cargo airlines.

Always bring your essentialt as carry-on!!!

I had nearly 2 hours at TPA due to thunderstorms. They couldn't unload the bags.

I knew about this before going downstairs and waited in the gate area to watch and see how long it would take. I watched nearly a whole movie on my laptop, then went downstairs where the airport hadn't really explained anything to the people waiting around.

I did notice that after the stop was lifted, all of WNs bags were offloaded first (lots of flights), then CO afterward. Not sure why, but it was frustrating to see all the WN people leave the building before IAH-TPA bags finally came up.

PHX has unacceptably long baggage-to-carousel delivery times. I've waited as long as 64 minutes and waits of 30 minutes or more are not unusual, regardless of the airline. Not sure what the problem is (maybe one of the local airport employees or ramp rats on here can explain) but I always tell my visitors to not check their bags when traveling here. As for me, PHX taught me to never check bags when I travel. It's not worth the hassle.

Over an hour several times at KIN and once at JFK.

And for me wait for luggage at BWI can be long if you fly WN. I think my longest there was about an hour.

90 minutes arriving from MIA to BOGOTA

Only 4 carrussels, by the time we arrived , 5 more flights landed and the airport was a caos.

They couldn't unload the plane because they were also short of arrival gates, so they moved the aircraft to a remote position with all our luggage inside.

What a night mare are these airport facilities.

I always try to emulate a colleague of mine from Chicago who travels globally all the time on World Bank business. His rule is 'If I can't get everything I need into a legal carry on bag, I don't go.'

He achieves this by doing things that few of the rest of us would do - wears his Chicago business suit to travel, be it Greenland or Chad. Washes his own shirt, underwear and socks every night in the basin in his hotel room and dries them overnight. Irons the shirt in the morning when he can. Otherwise buys a new shirt and throws it away in the evening.

He thinks he's in heaven in these days of flashdrives and wireless internet - never has to carry a piece of paper again!.

Rule of thumb I've found with CDG: if you're changing carriers, expect your luggage to come to you 24 hours late (on the flight the next day to your destination).

Also, my record is 2 hours wait in PHL for US luggage from San Juan.

Actually waiting at the airport, not more than an hour ever. Worst place - ORD and UA.

Luggage that was "Mis-directed" . . . eight days. I went to STX my luggage went to SXM. Thanks US and PHL.

Well I had a flight from CLT to BWI on US and waited almost 2 hours for my gate checked bag. Mind you the flight from CLT to BWI is only 45 minutes, so the wait for my bag was more than double the length of my flight.

25 ERJ : Just over 90 minutes with HP (US) at PHL. Flight landed about 30 minutes late at about 2:00 AM. 20 minutes to get off the A320. Bags start showing up
26 YOWza : I'm still waiting for KL to find my clarinet that went AWOL from LLW-AMS when I was 6. So 17 years and still waiting... YOWza
27 DeltaGator : 3 days on AA. To top it off they blamed me for telling them the wrong airport when I checked in. Not sure how I did that since I was going to Huntsvil
28 Post contains images Doona : 5 days. Some nut at CPH decided to put my bag on the RG CPH-LHR-GRU flight, instead of sending it to baggage-claim. When it finally came back, it had
29 Edelag : 3 Days I was going from VCE to MEX via LGW. I arrived to LGW south terminal and my connecting flight was going out from the north terminal. My luggage
30 Post contains images SkySurfer : My longest wait for my luggage was 9 days! I flew Skywest FAR - ORD then connected to AWAC for the ORD - YOW segment. Somewhere in between my luggage
31 Post contains images Mohamed : How about this ? This year i made an omra in KSA with my family. We returned with SV B747-300 (B747-368 to be exact , they were very prowd about that
32 Pilotdude09 : Mine would be 45 minutes at Perth on NZ175 from AKL it was a 767 and the luggage holds were frozen, the captain came down and explained what was going
33 Sspontak : My longest have been Las Vegas for all airlines and Delta at JFK.
34 YoungFlyer : My longest was 4 days b/c there was a strike in LHR where we made our connection. I dont think any suite cases made it on that plane. Dan
35 Swissgabe : Well, I waited a few times more than one hour at a belt. How about 3 days as my baggage didn't come at all. It already happened 3 times that my baggag
