Okay, the flights in question are LON-ZRH on 13th April, and ZRH-LON on 18th April...

BA
- Price about £470 for 4 people
- From LGW (closer to home)
- 737s

Swiss
- Price about £350 for 4 people
- From LHR (less easy to get to)
- A321s

Okay, who should I go with?

Hi Vasu

I'm not a fan of either carriers versus their main competitors (e.g. LH) in Europe. The good thing, IMHO, is that Swiss have improved recently whilst BA have not.

Being Scottish, I'd choose the cheapest. Big grin

Remember, you will only be in the air for around 90 minutes, so think about what is important to you- a certain aircraft or the UK airport convenience.

PS: You would get to fly on an A319 if you flew to BSL which is about 80 kms from ZRH!

Cheers

Buckieboy

Thanks for your help, Buckieboy... anyone else got suggestions?

Btw... I found it strange that the low-cost carriers charged more than BA and swiss for this itinerary!

EasyJet can give good fares from both Luton and Stansted to Basel if you book with sufficient notice. Personally, I have seen quite a big price hike around traditional UK/Christian holidays, however.

Having lived in Switzerland for three years, the thought of an 80km rail journey doesn't phase me. Had I been in the UK......well don't get me started (season of good will etc!)

Cheers

I would definitely go BA if the price is not a problem for you.

Don't forget to factor in the cost of getting to/from LHR. In addition, the "hassle factor"....

After living in Haywards Heath, I'd pick LGW any day!

Thanks everyone!

Basically we decided on BA and are booking it tomorrow morning!

... the rest of the family just decided they hate LHR for whatever reason!

Having flown BA in Europe, I would recommend you to try out Swiss. I was getting a considerable cheaper fare with U2 but decided to go with BA as we were flying with a 12 month old child. I don't think it mattered at all. BA were very unprofessional ( it could have been a one off ). I realize that all airlines have good flights, bad flights, good days & bad days. On that day, on that flight apart from seat nos on the boarding card I don't think they did any better than U2.

I'd go with BA because....
