What can I expect? Can I expect to be able to upgrade, being a Silver Preferred passenger on US Airways? Can I expect the flight numbers to actually stay the same, ie. in the stratosphere? And of course, most importantly, can I expect the same great service that I get on America West's East Coast division?

Don't expect to get a gate immediately when you get into Vegas - flights from the east coast coming into Vegas at night generally get to hold for 20 minutes, especially if you're half an hour early. We don't have gates that open up until 2245-2259, so if you land at 2230, have a nice book to read during your hold.
As for the outbound, don't expect an ontime dept. FLL never goes out on time, even if the aircraft got into the gate early. It's the redheaded stepchild of flights that just can't ever seem to go out on time.

Eeekk...LAS is a tough city...I don't think they are any friendly people there (except for the hookers..hehe).
You can upgrade with your Elite status, just ask an agent to put you on the upgrade list when you check in.
The LAS loads go up and down all the time, same is true for all hub departures I think. The redeyes are used a lot for "left over" passengers that misconnect in other cities.

I'm scheduled to fly to FLL from PHX on 2/25. Just received word from HP of a scheduled change to #883, which involved changing aircraft from a 757 the largest in the fleet to a 319 the smallest. The return on 3/5 on #188 still shows a 757. Just guessing a 757 will be in for maintenance/repaint during that period. The whole last week of Feb shows a 319/320 for #883.

A/c 901 has been on an extended period of mx. In fact, I saw on the company message board that it was going back out to GYR to do even more mx. Between that and the flights to HNL and OGG, I think they're just tryin to cover as much as they can ahead of time on 757 usuage.

I'm having my first HP experience this Sunday MSP-PHX-LAX. I hope I get on a new A319.

You don't have to request an upgrade on America West, even as US Airways Preferred. It happens automatically.
All these questions are answered on the very top of usairways.com.

I have never in my entire life met one even slightly rude person in Las Vegas.

I am in LAS allllll the time and I have never ever seen a nice person! Sorry, just how it's happened for me...
Anyway, yes, upgrades are automatic... the redeye bank is an odd bank of flights, things are a little chaotic as there is a flight to just about every east coast city HP flys to in about a one hour period... the terminals in LAS are not very nice.
As for a service, it's a redeye, so not even BOB is offered... and HP does not show movies on flights leaving after 10pm as too many passengers complained about not being able to sleep with the movies on, so no movie on the return either. But service should be on par with US, maybe even better if you're lucky.

But hey, you might have this loyal A.net poster as your FO on that flight. I'm LAS based and we almost always fly 879 and 888 as part of our trips each month. I'll see if I can bid for one or the other when the April bidding opens up in March.

Well obviously he hasn't run into me yet.

One smooth landing is skill. Two in a row is luck. Three in a row and someone is lying.

I've lived in Las Vegas for 18 years, and yes, this town is full of ruthless, arrogant, obnoxious blockheads. It's becoming way too much like Los Angeles. The further east I go, the more I fall in love with the cities I visit and the people I meet. Las Vegas is a transient town with a 1.8 million people who would rather be from somewhere else and the job turnover rate is astronomical. If you haven't met any nice people, I completely understand.
