What is your favourite European Hub and airline?

For example; KL at AMS or AF at CDG...

I have a joint favourite  Smile

Totally agree with you there, I think that Virgin's presence at Heathrow is really significant.

Great airport too, awesome variety of airlines and aircraft. Try counting the number of planes in this shot!  Wink

Well, I know, whom I will NOT nominate, but after that it gets tough ...

- KL @ AMS makes my list
- LH @ FRA & MUC is also on my list ...
- ZRH, CPH and VIE aren´t bad either ...

So, I will nominate LH @ its double-hubs FRA & MUC

I must agree with you there, AMS is one of my favourite European hubs, and KLM give you a plethora of aircraft, anything from a F50 all the way up to a 747; with plenty in between, another would be BA at LHR, plenty of arrivals and departures and a wide variety of Aircraft.

I think this is getting a tougher list to make as Airlines rationale their fleets into one maybe two manufacturers. It's not like the old days  old , when airlines had a wide and varied fleet.

For me it's absolutely Lufthansa at Frankfurt International! They are truely superb. A second one, and very close to LH was Swiss Air at Zurich. Swiss just doesn't cut it. Air France is good too, but CDG needs to be ditched for a better airport.

I'd go with KL's AMS, then LH's FRA and finally AF's CDG.

In that order.

LX at ZRH - great airline and lovely airport
Also LH at MUC - again nice new airport terminal, airline only let down by average lounges (light grey seats with yellow piping anyone - there is a reason we don't see these for sale furniture shops)

Special mention also to BA at LHR - wonderful service, great lounges (simply the best showers!) - just need all their planes to be at the same terminal (soon)

But LH at FRA - noooooo!!!! The lounges (AHHH!! Especially when packed to the rafters early on a Saturday morning) and the walk from international to European terminals is a real slog after a long overnight flight. And then we have their happy go lucky staff...

It's a bit more difficult in my case.

Favorite European scheduled carrier would be AF with their comprehensive worldwide network, multiple departures from many German airports and still fairly good cabin service.

Their main international hub however, CDG, is a close to being a nightmare.

The LH operations at MUC and FRA would be a good example of how to run a hub operation. Unfortunately, LH has really become a poor airline compared to other competitor's standards in all but the (still highly important) factors of punctuality and reliability.

No hub / carrier combination for me...

Preferred European airport: Amsterdam Schiphol
Preferred European main carrier: Turkish Airlines
Preferred European regional airline: Air Nostrum
Preferred European LCC: Air Berlin

Turkish Airlines? I flew them twice. The staff was pleasent, and that was about it. Lufthansa, KLM, and Air France are head and shoulders above them in every concievable catagory for me. Another good European airline in SAS and Ukraine International.

Why do people here hate Frankfurt International? FRA is an amazing airport. It is well thought out; staffed with helpful people; signs for everything are everywhere. It is my idea of what an airport should be. It is in stark comparison to CDG which is my idea of what an airport is NOT to be.

AMS's cool for the spotting, but I really dislike the terminals, it's disorganized these times as well

Well I admit that some areas are disorganized/excessively crowded and others need a facelift, but overall I think it's a very nice airport complex.

I flew KLM a lot between 1980 and 1995 and they were one of the best airlines in the world, but I think they have gone downhill dramatically over the past few years. I think South-East Asian airlines or Emirates for example are much better. Lufthansa is ok and I don't like Air France. Turkish Airlines is one of the few main carriers which are improving their service and I think they will gain importance over the next few years. Better service and better food, IMO.

I hope that with the new terminals at MAD, Iberia will be able to improve their image in front of the customer's eyes and MAD will also improve it's image as a hub.

MAD currently hosts about 400 daily IB operations, so it's a real hub for the airline.
