Hello All...

I have a simple question, not sure if it has been discussed here before, but... In your opinion, which is a better airline in terms of service, LAN or TAM???

Im flying Miami-Buenos Aires and I can choose between LAN (via SCL) and TAM (via GRU)... I already flew LAN and I consider it one of the top 10 airlines of the world, but not sure about TAM... Any kind of feedback would be really appreciated... Have a good weekend =)

Both airlines are operating the A320's on S. American routes from SCL or GRU  Smile

Personaly I would take TAM as it is easier to fly MIA-GRU-EZE, very tough  Smile

Both airlines are very similar  Smile

That's a tough one. I don't have ample experience with either one, but enough to tell both are very good.

I've flown LAN FRA-MAD-GRU way back in 2000 and GRU-SCLxSCL-MAD-FRA in 2001, TAM throughout Brazil on a few occasions in 2001 and 2004. Service aboard both airlines was very good, LAN longhaul had PTVs on the A340 if that's of any importance to you - myself being 1.91m, I liked extra legroom on the 767 better.

Food on TAM, though all domestic, has on all occasions been good; the steak during a GIG-SSA flight was simply marvellous. LAN wasn't as great, but still very edible. Comfort aboard TAM's F-100s and especially A320s was good, especially if compared to RG's ageing classic 737s.

All in all, my choice would be TAM, but only because it's not that long ago I've flown them. If schedules and/or ticket prices were in favour of LAN, I'd choose them since I don't think their service is any less good than in 2001.

Definitely both are great airlines. Both offer the best of South America. But I prefer LA.

Well I have been done that trip a few times (4 or 5):

One in LAN via SCL, which it was good and the other trips were on Avianca via Bogota. Avianca's planes are not as new but the service was 10 times better, attention and catering .(on Executive Class).

Good thing about AV also, is the return trip via FLL (no hassle with MIA's immigration lines and baggage claim)

Seat pitch guide:

AIRLINE-------Business-------Economy
Avianca----------56" -----------------34"
LAN---------------55"-----------------32"

Don't know about TAM on that route, I can't compare it (yet)..

BTW, how much is it on TAM or LAN from MIA to EZE?

I miss ACES, I am proud of AVIANCA & I am loyal to AMERICAN

If you will fly on Business, IMO your best choice is Tam.

I never flew on Lan Economy so i'm not in condition to say who's better. Tam service and comfort are good.

A question to you, how about your FF Program ? Tam will grant you 10,000 points, i don't know about Lan, but Tam allows you to get a domestic ticket in Brazil (or even a SCL/EZE-GRU/GIG free trip , one way).

Okay, if it's about the price, here we go:

For a week's stay: from 19/2 through 26/2 these are the prices I've got from the Airlines:

LAN Chile: USD 1,255.00 -this is because there's no direct flight since 4Ms were taken out of the system-
TAM: System is unable to provide prices.
Aerolíneas Argentinas: USD 982 [non-stop] - I did this from AR's US site
American Airlines: USD 815 [non-stop]

So, if price is the matter: American Airlines is the way to go. As for service, I'd definitely go with TAM... (yeah, I know, what a shocker).

If you already flew LA why not try JJ this time. Sound nice to try another one, compare and make your own conclusions.
I personally don't like AA [as you may know, they have a poor service, specially if you compare them with LA, JJ or AR ].

They [LA] are quoting me "Pasajero adulto nº 1 903.00 65.50 130.00 1,098.50
Descuento 3% LAN.com USA -27.09 0.00 0.00 -27.09
Total 875.91 65.50 130.00 $ 1,071.41"

I've tried both from the US and the Argentine site, and they both quoted me for 19/2 through 26/2 USD 1,255. Even though, with your prise, it's still the one with the higher price. I don't know why, but on other airlines, I get lower fares in their site. LAN is the only one that gives me HIGHER.

Indeed, why don't you consider non stop to EZE on AR or AA?

If you have to chose between LA or JJ, I would say the one with lower price or better connection, since I don't think we'll find evidence or agreement about the best.
Never flew JJ, but I've heard nothing but good references about them.

I respectfully disagree with Arcano regarding AA.
It would be a nightmare compared with LA, JJ or AR.

I would fly LA because you get to fly over the Andes (haven't had the chance to do that yet). Never flew with them, but I haven't heard anything bad about them either. But if you haven't tried JJ yet, I'd say go for something new!

One thing though, I much prefer the A330 over the 767. Just personal opinion.

Cheers
